How to Find Amethyst in Minecraft

Amethyst can be found in a few shapes and forms. The original, bud form has three separate stages (Small Bud, Medium Bud, Large Bud) and the Amethyst Cluster is the final, mature, fourth stage.

You will need a pick with Silk Touch enchantment if you want to obtain Amethyst from all four stages of its growth. If not, you need to wait for it to mature, because shattering the Amethyst Buds without the Silk Touch enchantment causes you to get nothing and the Amethyst basically tells you, “You Lose, Good Day Sir!”

Where to Find Amethyst Shards in Minecraft

You can farm for Amethyst mostly in the underground areas, between the Sea level and Bedrock. You should notice the Amethyst Geode “room” glowing purple fairly easily when you stumble upon it. You should be also able to hear a distinct sound this Geode “room” emits. As soon as you spot the first one, you’ll have no problem finding more of them. Within these Geode “rooms” you need to look for Amethysts that are peeking out. Once again, do not mine the buds unless you have a Pickaxe with Silk Touch.

You can spot the Amethyst blocks that produce the Amethyst buds by spotting a dark crack/cross on the block. It’s quite distinctive and stands out on the Amethyst wall.
