Much like Gliders and Grappling Hooks, Backpacks are essential items in Enshrouded. They let you carry more resources, equipment, and loot while exploring Embervale. And in a game where you always find something new on your adventures, you need space to carry it all home.

As such, upgrading your backpack should be a priority. The game guides you through crafting your first backpack, but higher-tier options are also available. Here’s how to get every backpack in Enshrouded, from the Tiny Backpack to the Large Backpack.

Tier 1: How to Get the Tiny Backpack

The Tiny Backpack is your first inventory upgrade. It adds eight inventory slots, increasing your total capacity from 24 to 32. It’s also the easiest backpack to craft, as you don’t need a crafting station. To unlock the recipe, collect Torn Cloth while exploring, looting containers, or fighting enemies.

Tiny Backpack recipe:

MaterialQuantity
Torn Cloth3
String5

Torn Cloth can be obtained by defeating Shroud enemies, while String is made from Plant Fiber, which you can collect by harvesting bushes. Alternatively, you can hunt spiders for String.

Once you have the materials, open your crafting menu and make the Tiny Backpack. Equip it in the Backpack Extension slot on your Character screen to increase your inventory capacity.

Tier 2: How to Get the Small Backpack

The Small Backpack increases your inventory capacity by 16 slots, bringing your total to 40. You can craft it at a Workbench after unlocking its recipe by obtaining Dried Fur.

This is where things start to get tricky. To make Dried Fur, you first need a Drying Rack, which you can obtain from the Hunter.

Dried Fur requires Salt and Animal Fur. You can find Salt in the Egerton Salt Mines in the Springlands or obtain it by defeating Hollow Damned. Animal Fur can be crafted through the Hunter or collected by hunting animals.

Once you have the required materials, the backpack itself is straightforward to craft.

Craft the Small Backpack at your Workbench and equip it to replace your Tiny Backpack. You can only equip one backpack at a time, so the upgrades don’t stack.

Tier 3: How to Get the Medium Backpack

The Medium Backpack adds 24 inventory slots, increasing your total capacity to 48. Unlike the first two backpacks, this one requires Reptile Leather and Linen, making it a more advanced upgrade.

To unlock the recipe, you’ll need to rescue Valory, the Bard, by progressing through the Follow the Melody quest. Once Valory is available at your base, you can craft the Medium Backpack through the Bard’s crafting menu.

Reptile Leather is made at a Drying Rack using Salt and Reptile Hide. Reptile Hide is dropped by Snapjaws, which you can find in the Blackmire region, northwest of Embervale, or around the tar pits in Revelwood.

Linen, on the other hand, is made using the Hunter’s Hand Spindle. You’ll need to complete the Hunter’s Hand Spindle quest to gain access to it. You’ll also need Flax, a bright blue flower that grows throughout Revelwood.

Tip: Start a Flax farm if you haven’t already. Linen is used in many later-game recipes, so it’s a good idea to start producing it early.

Once you have both Linen and Reptile Leather, you can craft the Medium Backpack.

Tier 4: How to Get the Large Backpack

The Large Backpack is the highest backpack tier in Enshrouded. It adds 32 inventory slots, bringing your total capacity to 56.

Like the Medium Backpack, you can craft it through Valory, the Bard. You’ll need Leather and Linen, so this upgrade requires more advanced crafting materials than the previous tiers.

Large Backpack recipe:

MaterialQuantity
Leather5
Linen5

Leather is made at a Tanning Station using Dried Fur, Salt, and Ammonia Glands. Linen requires Flax, which you can grow and process into fabric.

Once you have the materials, craft the Large Backpack through Valory’s crafting menu and equip it in your Backpack Extension slot. This gives you the maximum inventory capacity available from backpacks.
