How to Evolve Tyrogue in Pokemon GO

Do you prefer your Pokemon punchy or kicky?

Tyrogue is a lil scamp with a series of Pokemon it can evolve into. In main Pokemon games, its stat distribution dictates its evolution, but what about in Pokemon GO? Can you choose which Hitmon Tyrogue will evolve into? And if so, how? Here’s how to evolve Tyrogue in Pokemon GO.

How to Evolve Tyrogue in Pokemon GO

If you have your heart set on a particular Hitmon Pokemon, you best bet is to get on your knees and pray to Arceus, because Tyrogue’s evolution is completely luck based. Once a Tyrogus is generated, either in a Wild Encounter or by hatching an egg, it has a set stat distribution. This stat distribution, like mainline games, dictates what evolved form Tyrogue has access to.

A high attack will mean that Tyrogue evolves into Hitmonlee, a high defense will mean that it evolves into Hitmonchan. And if its HP is its highest stat, then it will evolve into Hitmontop.

  • Tyrogue → 25 Tyrogue candy + Attack as highest stat = Hitmonlee
  • Tyrogue → 25 Tyrogue candy + Defense as highest stat = Hitmonchan
  • Tyrogue → 25 Tyrogue candy + HP as highest stat = Hitmontop

But if you get really lucky and two stats are equal, you’ll have the option to choose which evolution you’d like. For example, if Tyrogue’s attack is equal to its defense, you can choose to evolve this little ruffian into either a Hitmonlee or a Hitmonchan.

And not all Hitmons are equal. Hitmonchan performs best in PvP across all leagues, with Hitmontop trailing close behind. Here are the best PvP move sets for all three.

Best PvP Move Set for Hitmonlee

  • Fast Attack → Double Kick
  • Charge Attack → Close Combat, Stone Edge

Best PvP Move Set for Hitmonchan

  • Fast Attack → Counter
  • Charge Attack → Close Combat, Ice Punch

Best PvP Move Set for Hitmontop

  • Fast Attack → Counter
  • Charge Attack → Close Combat, Stone Edge
