How to Earn The Root of the Problem Trophy/Achievement in Hogwarts Legacy

Mandrake and Josh

The world of Hogwarts Legacy is a dangerous place, from dark wizards, to monsters, and the plant life itself, it seems like everything is out to get you. Even the cabbages are carnivorous! However, despite the dangers presented by the flora of Hogwarts Legacy, the other side of this is the fact that plants like Venomous Tentacula, Mandrakes, and the aforementioned Chinese Chomping Cabbages can also be used as Chlorophyllic allies against enemies in combat.

Specifically, by using Mandrakes in battle, along with their innate ability to stun enemies, the shrieking plants can also net gamers a PlayStation trophy as well as a Steam, or Xbox achievement called “The Root of the Problem.” Here is everything you need to know about obtaining this achievement in Hogwarts Legacy on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The Root of the Problem Trophy/Achievement Explained

According to the description The Root of the Problem trophy/achievement can be obtained by “Stunning 10 different enemies using a Mandrake.” The Root of the Problem is one of the game’s 45 Steam achievements and is a bronze PlayStation trophy, as well as an Xbox achievement worth 10 Gamerscore.

Where to Obtain Mandrakes in Hogwarts Legacy

Mandrakes can be purchased at Dogweed & Deathcap. You can either purchase ready-for-battle Mandrakes for 500 Galleons, or seeds to grow in a pot of any size.

Growing a Mandrake in a pot can be time consuming process, but more cost effective than simply purchasing them, as a seeded pot will indefinitely supply players with new Mandrakes every fifteen minutes.

How to Use Mandrakes in Hogwarts Legacy

You must equip a Mandrake in the Tool Wheel to use it in combat. According to the description Mandrakes are “A magical plant that shrieks when unearthed. Mandrakes can be used to stun and harm enemies in a radius.” To use the plant most effectively, once you have equipped a Mandrake in your inventory, wait for multiple enemies to close in, and unleash a wave of deafening shrieks at the touch of a button (depending which platform you are playing Hogwarts Legacy on). The Mandrake serves as a win-win combat plant, through stunning attacking enemies, while also leaving the foes open to counterattacks before they can recover.

Once you have successfully stunned ten enemies cumulatively by using Mandrakes, you will receive The Root of the Problem trophy or achievement on either PS5, Steam, or Xbox Series X|S.
