How to Earn Fisherman Trophy/Achievement in Layers of Fear

How to spot something through the spyglass in Layers of Fear

The new Layers of Fear compilation features a variety of eerie, bizarre settings that players must navigate in order to see the stories’ conclusions. Similarly, following in that pattern, the game’s trophies and achievements are also highly unusual, with a number of weird miscellaneous tasks for players to solve, such as one called Fisherman. Here is how to obtain this counterintuitive trophy/achievement, which has only been earned by 3.2% of the Layers of Fear’s PS5 player base, as of this writing.

During The Actor’s Story, in between chapters you can explore your cabin, which is a hub area where you can peruse the collectibles you discovered and uncover secrets. In order to obtain the Fisherman trophy/achievement, you must “spot something through the spyglass.” Despite being a fishing-related trophy, no bait or fishing poles are required to accomplish this task.

To find the spyglass, head upstairs using the same staircase used to reach the film projector room that is required to start new chapters.

Once you climb the stairs, instead of going left toward the film projector room, head right where you will see a window with a spyglass.

Interact with the spyglass, and you will begin peering out into the ocean. It might be sunny or stormy depending how far you are into the story, but you can earn this achievement anytime between the second and fifth chapters.

Once using the spyglass, you will notice a number of objects floating in the distance. In order to obtain the trophy, you cannot simply stare at the items, but must target them. Find an item you wish to “fish” and select the corresponding target button/key, depending on your platform of choice.

After being targeted, the item will sink below the surface after a few seconds, and you will earn the Fisherman bronze PlayStation trophy or Xbox achievement worth five Gamerscore.

Where do the items go when they sink, you might ask? Surprisingly, in a mind-bending twist your “fishing” will bring the items you targeted with the spyglass into your cabin, on the table/right next to you.
