How to Disenchant Items in Last Epoch

Best ARPG crafting system!

When you start playing Last Epoch, you’ll find rare items fairly quickly. The progression is satisfyingly fast, but what are you supposed to do with the useless items that you find? Disenchant them, right?

Instead of selling them to the vendor, you can extract materials from them, like shards, through disenchanting. In Last Epoch, it is done through shattering, and here’s how you do it.

How to Disenchant Items Into Shards in Last Epoch

To turn your items into materials or shards, you must find and use Runes of Shattering. It is a rune that destroys an item, creating a random number of affix shards that have some of its affixes from the items.

So, if you find an item with one or two useful mods or affixes but still way worse than your item, you can use a Rune of Shattering to have a chance at getting some of those mods as shards.

Those shards could then be used in the Forge to craft items. You can open the Forge anytime by pressing “F.” Open it, place an item with an open affix, and use your shards to apply a chosen mod.

To use the Rune of Shattering, you’ll also do it from the Forge menu. Once you place an item inside the Forge, which you typically do when crafting modifiers, you can disenchant the item by clicking on “Shatter.”

These are primarily used on rare items since you can use them on unique or set items because those items should have a powerful and unique mod that shouldn’t be obtainable as a shard.

Where to Get the Rune of Shattering in Last Epoch

The Rune of Shattering is an uncommon item drop when progressing in the endgame. However, you can also buy a Rune of Shattering from the shop vendor in your local town. It costs 2,000 gold per piece, which is relatively cheap, especially since you’ll be farming hundreds of thousands of gold in the endgame.

However, when you are playing through the campaign, gold isn’t easy to come by. So, you don’t have the freedom to use as many Runes of Shattering throughout the campaign to get all the affixes you want.
