How to Build a Gate in DayZ

DayZ has recently made its way to the Xbox Game Pass, and many new players are joining the vast open world of zombie-infested post-soviet Republic of Chernarus. There is plenty of stuff to do here, from scavenging for food and clothes, finding new weapons, and building your own base. To start, you first need a fence and a gate, and here is how to build one in DayZ. 

How to Make a Gate in DayZ? 

In DayZ, a gate is a part of the much bigger fence system. Gates can be locked by a password that contains four digits, thus preventing other players on the server from entering your base and doing you harm. 

However, to even start thinking about building a gate in DayZ, you first need several items and materials. Here’s what you need: 

• Wooden logs
• Boxed nails
• Ropes/rags
• Hacksaw
• Pliers
• Axe
• Hammer
• Shovel
• Nails
• Metal wires

What comes next isn’t easy. You have to build a fence kit to make gates. 

The most simple fence needs:

• 36 nails
• 18 planks
• 2 wooden logs
• 1 fence kit

The first thing you need to do is to place the rope on the ground. If you don’t have the rope, you can make one out of rags by tying 12 of them. 

Next, place two sticks on top of the rope and select the fence kit from the recipe list. Once you have constructed the fence kit, you should place it in your inventory and install the fence kit at the location you want your base to be.

Now, proceed to make doors. First, attach two logs to the fence kit. Then, connect the planks with the new structure. Use the nails from your inventory and place them in your hand and then, with the left mouse button, build the lower frame. Make the upper frame by repeating the same action. 

Next, you will need to build upper and lower wooden walls by adding planks to the structure. Then attach wires and pliers to your structure and build gates. Once the process is done, you will have a functioning gate. You can set a combination lock for protection against enemies.
