You’ll discover lots of cool things to buy in Assassin’s Creed Rogue, and similar to real life, money talks. This comes in the form of pounds, and it’s quite easy to increase Shay Cormac’s virtual bank account. With that, here are some of the best ways to get rich.
Board enemy ships
Sinking ships is a great way to pass the time while sailing the North Atlantic, but it’s not the best idea from an economics standpoint. You only receive half a ship’s cargo for destroying it, as opposed to boarding and then capturing the vessel to receive the full amount; this also includes different resources required to upgrade the Morrigan (wood, cloth), renovate buildings (stone) and make combat improvements (metal).
Next, head to the Captain’s Cabin on the Morrigan to take part in Fleet Missions, where you’re able to send captured ships to collect resources and money. It’s something that happens behind the scenes while playing the game, though you’ll need to buy more docks when your fleet gets too big. On the positive side, you can replay Fleet Missions and still earn some pounds.
Tip: Be on the lookout for Abandoned Ships, a random event that occurs in AC Rogue. Once spotted, board and quickly take the resources.
Upgrade the Morrigan whenever possible
The stronger you make the boat with an able bodied crew, the easier it will be to take down the largest ships in the game. Once you make these upgrades, sail to the North Atlantic (northwest, northeast) and engage these powerful enemies in battle. Before long, you’ll have more pounds than you’ll know what to do with; we suggest using the dough to buy even more Morrigan upgrades.
Sell tobacco
Take this cash crop to a harbormaster and reap the reward. It will help you purchase new upgrades, weapons and valuable information. This also applies to animal skins you collect through hunting.
Tip: Complete Hunting Challenges to earn some extra cash. To do this, you must obtain a specific number of pelts; five deer pelts, two Black Wolf Pelts, etc. Look for Hunting Challenges near Wilderness Towns.
Capture gang HQs
This will admittedly take some time because the non-player characters put up a fight, but it’s something that won’t cost you precious pounds to acquire.
You’ll need to use Eagle Vision to identify the leader and take him out. First use a Berserk Grenade to turn his minions against each other. He is immune to the effects, but at least you’ll be able to battle one-on-one.
When captured, a Gang HQ grants bank access (withdraw funds), Fleet Mission maps and becomes a Fast Travel location.
Renovate buildings
Don’t be cheap! Invest some of that newfound wealth into renovating buildings throughout the game. When complete, these structures will produce money over time without much effort on your part.
Tip: Keep an eye out for chests and take the money inside.
Pickpocket
Although you won’t make much cash pickpocketing people, it’s a fun way to practice your sneaking skills. Simply creep up behind someone and hold the Counter button, then wait for the on-screen gauge to fill up. The better someone dresses, the more pounds you’ll obtain.
Loot dead bodies
Killing someone produces another benefit, in addition to getting this person out of the way. You can loot the body for a modest number of pounds and resources. If you kill multiple enemies, hold the Counter button while walking past the corpses to loot faster.
Pick the locks
Lock picking is quite time consuming and there’s a chance someone will spot Shay, but the payoff might be worth the risk. We suggest lock picking with no one around. Stick to that and Shay will be successful each time you try and open a door.
