Assassin’s Creed’s armor system has evolved over the years, from Odyssey to Valhalla. Shadows sees more evolution and, naturally, it pays to understand these systems so we can capitalize on them and become near indestructible.
With that in mind, here’s a brief explanation of how the armor system works in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
The Armor System in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Explained

The armor system is much simpler in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. You’ll get different rarities for your main armor, headgear, and trinkets. Each piece will have varying stats, and when you get to higher levels and rarities, you’ll get access to awesome perks.
The main difference in Assassin’s Creed Shadows (compared to Valhalla) is that you don’t need to complete sets to gain perks. Armor in Shadows gives you the perk attached to the armor immediately. You also only get three slots for armor — main armor, headgear, and trinket — which is way less in Valhalla.
You’ll want to find the highest rarity and the best stats, and you’ll eventually stick with that piece for a long time until you want to change the build or try something else out.

What Does Upgrading Armor Do in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Upgrading your armor gives you increased stats because it essentially raises the armor piece level by one. Each upgrade will cost you Mon (main currency) and other resources like Silk.
The same goes for your weapons, but they need Mon and resources like Ores and Minerals. Since upgrading is cheap, you should capitalize on upgrading your favorite armor and weapons early, especially if you get pieces with amazing stats and perks.
Once you reach level 20+, it can get a bit costly, especially if you aren’t finishing side quests, exploring shrines and points of interest, and actively searching for resources. You can buy these resources from the premium shop, but who wants to pay hard-earned cash in a single-player game, right?
