Helpful in nearly any situation

Enchantments in Minecraft can completely make or break your playthrough, regardless of the situation. If you’re fighting against other players, getting a fire aspect and sharpness on a sword helps a ton. If you’re trying to mine out a large space, efficiency will make things much faster. Mending is one of the best enchantments out there, saving you resources and allowing you to do whatever you’re doing for much longer. How Does the Mending Enchantment Work in Minecraft?

In Minecraft, mending allows you to automatically restore your armor, tool, or weapon durability as you gain experience. In other words, as you’re slaying monsters, mining ore, or doing any other activity that generates EXP orbs, any broken items in your inventory will regain durability. However, this also means you’ll get slightly less experience per orb since some of it is used to repair your equipment.

While this may initially sound like your weapons, armor, or tools would have infinite durability, this only happens if you’re gathering experience orbs. Without EXP, your durability will drop like usual, even if you have mending!

Unlike most regular enchantments in Minecraft, you can’t get mending from an enchanting table. Instead, you have to find enchanted books with mending, which you can find in treasure chests. Alternatively, you can find these books while fishing or trading with a librarian villager. You’re not guaranteed to find a mending book right away, though, so you’ll have to rely on luck slightly.

Minecraft is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and mobile devices through the official website. For more information about the game, check out How to Hatch Turtle Eggs and How to Make Candles in Minecraft.
