As the summer season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons begins for players in the Northern Hemisphere, players may start to notice a new bug appearing on trees. The Animal Crossing: New Horizons cicada shell is a rare bug skeleton that will only appear a few months out of the year on your island. With that said, here’s how to catch a cicada shell in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Cicada Shell – Months, Location, Bells
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a cicada shell can be found on any tree on your island at any time during the day. That being said, these shells can only be found during July and August in the Northern Hemisphere and January and February in the Southern Hemisphere. Unfortunately, if you manage to find the elusive shell, it can only be sold for a depressing 10 Bells.
All that being said, if you’re trying to catch all of the new bugs that entered the game in July, then you’re going to want to keep your eyes peeled for a New Horizons cicada shell. Since there are a plethora of trees on almost every island in the game, you likely will end up finding the shell naturally while walking around.
Although, if you’re still having trouble, some players have stated that the cicada shells are easier to find in the evening than in the morning or afternoon, but you may want to take that theory with a grain of salt.

If you need a break from bug hunting, there are also a bunch of new fish that are coming to New Horizons this July. As you likely know, catching and selling fish is a good way to make some extra Bells to help pay off any remaining debt or purchase new items.
There is also a new feature being added to the game which will allow players to swim and dive into the water! This update will also see the addition of some new underwater critters that players can catch to help fill out their collection. Additionally, on specific summer days, players will be able to participate in the Bug Off event, which will require them to catch a specific number of bugs in a short amount of time for some fun rewards.
