Helldivers 2 Anti-Materiel Rifle Unlock Requirements and Usage Guide

No, it isn't 'Material.'

There are a lot of weapons, support weapons, sentries, and ordinances to choose from in Helldivers 2, but one of the trickier pieces of equipment is the Anti-Materiel Rifle. The good news is this weapon is easily unlocked and effective if you have the right strategy in mind.

How to Unlock the Anti-Materiel Rifle in Helldivers 2

The Anti-Materiel Rifle is one of the earliest early-game weapons and can be unlocked at Level 2 with 5,000 Requisition Slips (money). Getting to Level 2 is as easy as doing a few low-rank missions by yourself or with some buds, and the required cash shouldn’t be much of a problem either. Standard missions give anywhere from 1,500 to 3,000 Requisition Slips depending on their difficulty, and you can always find more during your mid-mission explorations.

How to Use the Anti-Materiel Rifle in Helldivers 2

The Anti-Materiel Rifle is of.. middling effectiveness against armored units. Being an early-game weapon, it’s excellent for dispatching things like Bile Spewers, which are hard to kill but lack heavy armor. If you’re trying to take down heavier targets, like a Charger or Hulk, you’re in for a bad time (and a lot of wasted ammo).

The key strategy to using the Anti-Material Rifle effectively is the same as using something like the Grenade Launcher or Machine gun – your job is to take out ‘Medium’ Targets. These range from Bile Spewers to Stalkers and Scout Striders. You’re going to need someone else in the squad to deal with heavily armored units using something like a Railgun, Recoilless Rifle, or Autocannon. Of course, using those weapons on less-armored enemies is not only inefficient, it’s also slower. You can chew through hordes of strong but unarmored foes using your AMR; just be sure to fill your niche responsibly!
