We all have to start from somewhere, and in true cozy fashion, we are building from the ground up in Graveyard Keeper 2. Get ready; it’s a long stretch to industrialism.

Below we’ll detail the essential building blocks of Graveyard Keeper 2 and which tools you’ll rely on as you grind for Tech Points, complete NPC requests, and build up the Graveyard and Church so that more visitors come to Mass. This is really an early-game guide for people just getting started with GK2 as there are little to no instructions given on how this cozy adventure works.

But we’re here to help. So let’s get into it.

The most fundamental ingredients are found in the Building and Metallurgy Tech Trees. You will spend most of your time running around the Inquisition Base. That is, until you get Zombies to help assist you with the labor. Until then, we advise you make multiple Simple Chests and place them outside your home, as the inventory is shared across this space, saving you from repeatedly moving items in and out of your backpack.

Farming

I dip in and out of the garden throughout the day to tend to the crops and make Bread. I’ve found Wheat to be an excellent resource to farm in the early game. You can not only sell this to Herm (the Village Merchant) to make a quick buck, but investing in a Millstone early on can get a continuous stream of Bread cooking. That way you never run out of energy. Bread replenishes a good chunk without having to travel far for it. It also cooks fast and gives you x4 Bread per action, making it an easy food source to pick up before jumping into bed and again the second you wake up.

Theology

At the beginning, spending Tech Points in Theology is mostly based on the Nun’s requests. She wants you to fix the Graveyard and Church, which can be done quite easily (even without Zombie Assistants). But there are multiple opportunities hidden in this Tech Tree that increase the Grave Keeper’s Mastery based on what he has on his person.

The rest here, such as the Writing Desk (all of which is located underneath your home once you unlock the secret hatch), offer ways to increase your Faith and get more Science Points to spend at Alchemy Lab.
