How to Fuse Weapons in Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

Okay, so it’s not as dramatic as the small insert suggests, but knowing how to fuse weapons with materials or other weapons is vital to your survival in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It could be the difference between leaving a fight without a scratch or paying the price for being too ill-prepared.

This ability helps you stand a better chance in any battle and create tools to carry out specific tasks, such as building, starting fires, and many other awesome things in Hyrule, the Great Sky Islands, and the Depths.

In this guide, we’ll go over how to fuse items from your surroundings with your weapons, including fusing different weapons to create bigger and more powerful spears and claymores for more formidable opponents. Surprisingly, if you’re new to The Legend of Zelda series, you’ll soon learn that the body parts, or weapons your enemies drop in the game, have excellent attacking attributes and act as great attachments when fused.

How to Fuse Weapons in Tears of the Kingdom

To fuse any weapon, you must possess the Fuse ability, have more than one weapon/material, and know how to drop weapons and materials from your inventory. Before activating the Fuse power, use your quick menu or head to the inventory to select a weapon to drop on the floor.

You can either hold the right button on the D-pad to open the quick menu and find your weapon of choice. Or, open your inventory by pressing the plus button and search for a weapon to throw down. To throw a weapon down while using the quick menu, press X. Using method two, press A and follow the instructions after pressing the A button. The latter works best for me as you can see your weapons or item’s attack power before deciding on fusing.

Now you must activate Fuse. Open the ability wheel by holding L and the right analog stick down, then release L. After that, your surroundings should turn blue with two prompts. One will be to fuse the item with your shield by pressing ZL. The other will be to fuse it with your weapon by pressing Y, as the image displays below. Press Y and the two weapons should fuse.

The only time it will not work is if the weapon has already been fused with another weapon or material. Additionally, you can only fuse two objects together.

What Does Fusing Weapons Do in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

When fusing weapons in TOTK, your weapon’s attributes will increase. You’ll see a number in a small square in the bottom right-hand corner when viewing your artillery in your inventory or via the quick menu. This number indicates the attacking power of the weapon. 

When fusing with another weapon, the number in the bottom corner will increase and indicate how strong the new weapon will become. Sadly, this does not prevent the weapon from deteriorating after using it. All weapons have a lifespan, no matter how intact they might seem. 

Best Weapons to Fuse in TOTK 

The best-fused weapons give you a good striking range and deal out a lot of damage. Also, I’m a massive fan of Link’s stance with a Traveler’s Spear or long stick with an attachment in his hand. Clearly, Link has been putting in the work and doing some fencing classes as an extra activity after TOKT hours. 

The only downside is that you cannot carry a shield in this fighting stance. Making it a high-risk and high-reward fighting style with spear-type weapons. It would be best if you were exceptionally well-versed in your dodge and evading abilities.

In the table below, I have listed what weapons I have encountered, played around with, and fused. I’ve fused plenty of materials, including a shield with a sword and a bow with a spear. The list will be updated as I progress through the game and find new ways to improve my battle apps.

The Best Weapons to Fuse Listed

Some of the weapons listed here can only be found and added to your inventory as you progress through the game and complete main quests, side quests, and explore Hyrule. Monster parts that possess elementals will also provide an extra attribute. Fire monster parts create flames, ice parts can freeze, and shock monster parts create shock effect weapon attachments. There is no limit to the different types and styles of weapons you can create, so experiment as much as you can.

A top tip is to always strategize well before going into any battle. Size up your opponents, do a head count and see what you have in your arsenal to defeat each foe. Check if you got a weapon for every stance, a shield to wield, and plenty of recovery meals to ensure you can refill your health. Going into a fight with a fused weapon is much better than going in with a non-fused weapon.

Another vital tip to keep in mind is that when fusing weapons, it matters what weapon is in your hand and what you fusing it to. The one in your hand is the fighting stance Link will take up with the weapon. Meaning, it will determine if you’re wielding the weapon with one or two hands. Also, when removing any fused material or weapon from a weapon, you’ll end up losing that fused material. So be careful with your choices.
