There are a number of NPCs scattered throughout Fortnite, some of which can be hired to pal around with you and give you a little extra firepower when needed.

To help simplify this process, we’ve put together a quick guide explaining how you can earn Bars and hire a Character in Fortnite!

Fortnite Week 14 Challenges | Earn Bars to Hire a Character

One of the Week 14 Challenges in Fortnite asks you to earn Bars to hire a Character.

You can earn Gold Bars by searching Chests and Loot Llamas, searching through safes, smashing cash registers in locations (like restaurants), smashing furniture like couches and beds, completing tasks for NPCs, and by eliminating enemy players.

You’ll typically get the most Bars at once by searching through safes, though be warned it’ll take you time to complete the search action and collect your Bars. It typically costs a total of 100 Bars to hire a Character in Fortnite, though the Week 14 Challenge wants you to collect 150 Bars. You don’t actually have to hire an NPC to complete it.

Instead, after collecting the requisite Bars (150), the Week 14 Challenge will actually be marked as complete and you’re good to go. If you’re curious about hiring a Character and want to give it a try, you can certainly do so though!

Fortnite has several NPCs and a few – not all  – will let you hire them. By hiring them, they’ll follow you around and will help defend you against enemy players. In the map image above, we’ve circled some of the locations where you can find NPCs for hire.

And if you’re wondering, yes you can hire more than one NPC at once. It’s not necessary, but if you have extra Bars on hand it’s a heck of a lot of fun to create an army of NPCs.

A few of our favorite NPCs include Mave, Mancake, Remedy, Doggo, and Bandolier. In the image above, you’ll see what it looks like to hire an NPC. All you need to do is approach them, talk to them, then select the outline of a head with a + sign beneath it and click again to confirm you want to hire that NPC.

Again, once you’ve collected the 150 Bars needed to hire an NPC in Fortnite, the Week 14 Challenge will be marked as complete and you’ll earn 40,000 XP as a reward. Also note that the XP earned for Epic Quests has been doubled for Week 14 and Week 15 Challenges in Fortnite, so be sure to take advantage of this if you’re still working to complete your Battle Pass!
