Fortnite – How to Use the Guided Missile

by Larryn Bell

The Guided Missile is a rideable explosive weapon in Fortnite that introduced a fun new way to destroy forts and traverse the battlegrounds in Fortnite Battle Royale. After being removed from the game back in April, the Guided Missile returned to Fortnite with modified stats in Content Update v5.10. The Guided Missile may not be easy to find in regular matches, so you’ll want to make sure you know how to use this rare weapon when you finally get your hands on one. This guide will explain how to use the Guided Missile in Fortnite as well as its damage stats and features so that players know what to expect.

Fortnite Guided Missile Guide

The Guided Missile is a remote-controlled rocket launcher that allows the player to take direct control of the missile upon firing. This causes the camera perspective to shift to that of the missile itself, leaving the player vulnerable.

After firing, players can control the missile using the regular movement controls in Fortnite. Players can disconnect from the missile at any time by pressing R2 (PS4), RT (Xbox One), or LMB (PC). Doing so will cause the missile to continue its trajectory until it ends. As of Patch 5.10, Guided Missiles can also be controlled via keyboard using the default movement inputs.

The Guided Missile moves a bit slower than a regular rocket and does less damage since being released from the vault. You can’t move your character while using the Guided Missile, so make sure you’re in a safe location before using this weapon. However, you can use the Guided Missile to move your character around the map, which we will explain below.

The Guided Missile comes in two rarities, Epic (purple) and Legendary (orange), and can be found within Treasure Chests and Supply Drops. Given its rarity, make sure you use the Guided Missile strategically to make the most of this remote-controlled weapon in Fortnite.

How to Ride the Guided Missile in Fortnite

Like the rocket launcher, the Guided Missile in Fortnite is a rideable weapon, meaning players can hop onto the missile and have it carry their character across the map. You don’t even need to be in a squad to ride on the Guided Missile, either.

Due to it being remote controlled, players can solo ride the Guided Missile by firing off the missile and turning it around back toward where your character is standing stationary. Just as the missile approaches your character, detach from the missile and jump onto it to ride it to victory.

Teammates can hop onto the missile as well, so coordinate with your squad to set up amazing plays with the Guided Missile, like the one shown in this video from Reddit user Dudeless888.

Fortnite Guided Missile Stats

In Content Update v5.10, the Guided Missile was reworked to be used as more of a scouting tool rather than a high-damage explosive weapon. Its movement speed, damage, turn radius, and fuse duration have all been reduced, and it now has an ammo cap of just 12 rockets. The Guided Missile has a fuse duration of 15 seconds, with 3.13 seconds in between shots. Additional stats for both variants of the Guided Missile are found on the table below.

Tips for Using the Guided Missile in Fortnite

  • Rocket yourself to safety. As we explained above, players can solo ride their own Guided Missile in Fortnite, making it a great means of transportation. Use the Guided Missile to avoid storms and shuttle your character to safety when needed. You can do this with allies as well, as shown in the video below.
  • Take cover first. If you don’t plan on solo riding your own Guided Missile rocket, you’ll want to make sure your character is in a safe location before firing, otherwise you’ll be left vulnerable to enemy attacks.
  • Coordinate with squad members. Communicate with players in your squad to have them ride into battle using the Guided Missile to make the most of this unique weapon in Fortnite.

Now that you know how to use the Guided Missile in Fortnite, you should be able to set up some hilarious plays with your squad using this rare, unique weapon. If you’re working on your Fortnite Battle Pass, be sure to check out our Fortnite guides to learn how to complete the latest weekly challenges in Fortnite.
