Charizard is one of the strongest cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket. It makes sense to make a deck that revolves around a Charizard Ex, but it does have a lot of requirements to work. However, if you have some of the mandatory cards, you can make the best Charizard deck with a few alternative cards that are strong for specific situations. Here’s the best Charizard deck for the Genetic Apex meta in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
Full Charizard Decklist in Pokemon TCG Pocket
2x Charmander | 2x Moltres Ex | 2x X Speed | 2x Sabrina |
2x Charmeleon | 2x Poké Ball | 2x Giovanni | |
2x Charizard Ex | 2x Professor’s Research | 2x Potion |
As the name suggests, the deck revolves around Charizard Ex. Charizard Ex is one of the strongest cards in the game, with Crimson Storm doing a whopping 200 damage. However, Crimson Storm requires at least four energy cards to use, and it also discards two fire energy cards on use. This basically makes Charizard Ex a better Mewtwo, which happens to be one of the strongest decks in Genetic Apex.
Moltres Ex is there to provide free fire energy cards to attach to your benched Pokemons with Inferno Dance. Since the Inferno Dance can only put energy cards into benched Pokemons, preferably a Charizard Ex to finish off all the Pokemons in a single blast.
How to Play the Charizard Deck
The playstyle revolves around playing Moltres Ex and using Inferno Dance as fast as possible. You want to prioritize putting energy cards into Charmander rather than another Moltres Ex on the bench when using Inferno Dance. This is because most decks mostly play Ex cards that have more than 150+ HP, which means you have to rely on evolving to a Charizard and using Crimson Storm immediately. Placing energy cards on Moltres for Heat Blast is a worst-case scenario type of play. You will rarely do it.
Giovanni is there in case you need to use Charizard’s Slash twice since there are several Pokemons out there with 70HP. Sabrina is there to make the enemy swap to an Ex so they can get roasted by a Crimson Storm that is ready. If your Crimson Storm isn’t ready, you can use Sabrina to delay the enemy from doing damage.
X Speed is there to save you from losing a Moltres or for saving a Charizard so it can charge up some more energy. You don’t want to add other Pokemons to the deck because you want Poké Ball to give you an early Moltres Ex as much as possible.

Charizard Deck Alternative Cards
While getting two Moltres Ex and two Charizard Ex cards is a tall task, especially for free-to-play players, you have no choice but to wait for these cards. Moltres Ex is more important than pulling a Charizard Ex since running Charizard Ex is extremely weak without the energy support from Moltres Ex.
You can even say that a Moltres Ex is the most important card in the deck since you can easily swap Charizard out for another energy-hungry Pokemon like an Arcanine Ex, non-Ex Moltres, or a Centiskorch. However, all these Pokemons are weaker than a Charizard Ex. They are decent enough for a substitute. There is no substitute for Moltres Ex, so you really want to save up for it.
Giovanni and Potions have some alternatives, but you don’t want to add more Pokemons because you want to pick up a Moltres Ex using Poké Balls. If you have more basic Pokemons, you’ll lower the chances of drawing one from a Poké Ball trainer card. You can add a Red Card trainer. If you are lacking a few cards, you can also add a Ponyta + Rapidash + Blaine combo. It really depends on what you have available, as free-to-play players will have way fewer cards.
If you are lacking a lot of cards, you can also try rerolling your account until you pull a Charizard Ex and a Moltres Ex to get you started.
