Fortnite – How to Gather Materials Quickly

Tired of being low on materials you need in Fortnite? Here are a few handy tips to help you gather faster.

Gathering plays a major role in Fortnite, and if you aren’t keeping up with the demand of items you need, then you won’t be able to craft some of the best items in the game. In this article we’ll take a look at several ways you can maximize your gathering abilities, as well as offer a few additional advice to help you find the best loot, and gather materials quickly in Fortnite.

How to Maximize Item Use

The slog for Wood, Metal, and Stone can get repetitive at times, and if you’re building quite a bit during missions, you’ll need to restock often. The trick to gathering materials that you need for building is to try to maximize what type of structures you are building. For example, whenever we complete a mission, if we have a full team of four, we usually try to setup with a person on every, and then we build a small fort around our objective.

You don’t want to waste all your resources building a massive fort around the Atlas just for it all to disappear at the end of the mission. Place some floors, walls, upgrade them if you can, and then place a few traps around to help weed out any stragglers. So long as you and your team stay on top of the enemies, you shouldn’t have to worry about them breaking through.

How to Gather Quicker

The trick to gathering items like Wood, Metal, and Stone is to time your swings. Early on in the game, players unlock a skill that allows them to hit a critical point on any item that they swing at with their pickaxe. When hit, this critical area causes the item to decay faster. While it might seem like this would be bad—surely you aren’t getting the same number of items—we’ve actually done a lot of testing, and you get around the same number of items no matter how you swing.

Because of this, try to aim at the circle point that appears on items you are scavenging, as this will help you get all of the materials quicker, allowing you even more time to gather.

Best Class for Gathering

Your class might not seem important when you’re scavenging for supplies, but it really is. While classes like the Ninja and Soldier are good for anything, the Outlander is really the best class to gather with, as they have the highest chance of finding rare items throughout the world. What’s even better about this class is the fact that once upgraded, you can actually see lootable items with rare goods glowing faintly through walls.

The Outlander class is basically the treasure hunter in Fortnite, so make sure you treat it as such. Equip this class, head into a mission, and gather to your heart’s content.

Choose the Best Mission

The final tip we want to offer is a simple one. If you want to gather materials quickly, or just scavenge around for loot, then make sure you choose the right types of missions. Missions like Ride the Lightning and Fight the Storm aren’t timed, allowing you to take as much time to explore the map as you’d like. You’ll also want to choose specific areas based on the types of materials that you need. For example, Stone and Wood can best be gathered from forested areas, whereas Metal will be more plentiful in suburban or city zones.

If you can tap into these four things, you’ll be well on your way to become a master in scavenging in Fortnite. Trust us, these are some of the best ways to gather, and they’ve helped us immensely in our struggles against the Storms.
