To help answer these questions, we’ve put together a guide for you that explains where to find wolves and how to tame a wolf in Fortnite!

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 | How to Tame a Wolf

  • Craft a Hunter’s Cloak, approach a wolf, then interact to tame it

Or

  • Collect a food offering to give your wolf – either a piece of meat or an edible fish
  • Locate a pack of wolves and either eliminate all but one, or distract the others with food while you tame one of them – the first option is easier than the latter
  • To give a wolf food, select your food item (meat, fish) then toss it like you would a grenade
  • The food will land on the ground and the wolf will approach it, while the wolf is eating, get up next to it and interact with it to “Tame” it
  • A good tip is to collect fish like the Small Fry and throw several of those on the ground near you to keep the wolf happy as the “Tame” process takes a few moments to complete
  • You’ll know you’ve tamed your wolf successfully when you see it emote hearts and an indicator that it’s a companion similar to when you hire NPCs

The easiest way to tame a wolf is by crafting a Hunter’s Cloak. With a Hunter’s Cloak on, you’ll be able to approach animals like wolves, boar, and raptors without them attacking you. Alternatively, you can give them food to tame them.

The first step in the food taming process is gathering up an offering for your wolf. You won’t be able to tame a wolf without giving it something to eat (if you don’t have a Hunter’s Cloak equipped), so before you go seeking out a pack of wolves, you’ll need to do one of two options.

First, you could hunt animals (boar, chicken) for meat. Second, you could obtain edible fish like the Small Fry or Flopper. Yes, the wolf will accept fish if you don’t have meat on hand, they’re not super picky.

The next step is finding a pack of wolves. The place where we found wolves the most often is in the area marked in the map image above. What’s nice about that location is that it’s a great fishing spot, allowing you to collect food for the wolf you’re about to tame all in the same spot.

When it comes to taming a wolf, we recommend that location above all others, though you can find wolves near Weeping Woods and out in “wild” areas between named locations, and in places like Stealthy Stronghold.

When you find a pack of wolves – there are usually three – you can either kill the other two which will drop meat that the remaining wolf will eat (it’s twisted, we know) or you can try and distract the other two with food while you tame one of them.

The second option is the hardest, and while it pains us to shoot at wolves even though they want to attack and kill us, it really is easiest to tame a wolf when the other two aren’t there and in the way. Again, this is if you don’t have the Hunter’s Cloak equipped.

At the location marked in the map image above, we tamed our first wolf after we eliminated the other two wolves that were with it, then tossed it several Small Fry which kept it busy long enough for us to complete the taming process.

Speaking of which, once you’ve given the wolf you want to tame an offering of food you’ll need to approach it and interact with it like you would a Chest or Supply Drop. Note that the “Tame” process is slow, and your wolf might finish their meal and run off, so try and have several pieces of food on hand to keep it busy.

Once the “Tame” process is complete, your wolf will send out heart emotes and will be marked as a companion similar to when you hire NPCs to accompany you in Fortnite.

Some things to keep in mind once you’ve tamed a wolf in Fortnite is that wolves can swim (also something to keep in mind if you’re being attacked by a wolf as swimming won’t save you) and that wolves will eat any fish you catch.

The same goes for animals you kill. If you’re trying to collect meat with a tame wolf by your side, you’re going to be in for a frustrating time as the wolf will run over and try to chow down on the meat before you can pick it up. It is a wolf, after all.

When fishing near a wolf, or hunting near a wolf, pick up anything edible that you want to keep for yourself as quickly as possible. Otherwise yeah, the wolf will enjoy it as a tasty treat. And that’s all there is to it! Enjoy your new tame wolf companion as it fights by your side in Fortnite.
