Final Fantasy 16: Is the Echoes of the Fallen DLC Region Locked? – Answered

The increased difficulty starts prior to purchasing.

It can be confusing when it comes to what is region locked and what isn’t, especially when wanting to download DLC for certain games. Some can be region locked, and some are free to throw caution to the wind. However, for FF16, that is sadly not the case.

FF16 Base Game and DLC: Is it Region Free?

If you purchased a copy of Final Fantasy 16 from elsewhere, and now want to download the DLC in your actual region’s store, you’re unfortunately out of luck. The FFXVI DLC is region locked, and you will not be able to play it unless both the base game itself and the downloaded DLC are from the same region.

Many people online have had trouble accessing the DLC after purchasing it, and the one thing that they had in common was that the PlayStation Store that they bought the DLC from didn’t match to the region that the game was from. This can be tricky, as not all games have such strict requirements.

What this means is that you will need to check what region your game is in if you bought it elsewhere, and make sure that you have a PlayStation account that matches said region so that you can purchase the DLC successfully. Otherwise, you are just wasting your money. Unfortunately, this is a situation that I am all too familiar with. I bought a US copy of the game, but my PlayStation account is Australian, so I had to make sure that I downloaded the DLC on my secondary US account to be able to play it. After that though, it was smooth sailing and installed perfectly.

Here are the following steps to make sure that you can purchase the downloadable content from another region.

  • Create a new PSN account on your console if you do not already have one in the same region as your game.
  • Make sure that you have set up your payment. Whether it be credit card, PayPal, PSN cards etc.
  • Purchase the DLC.
  • In settings, make sure that you have Console Sharing and Offline Play on so that both accounts can access the DLC.
  • Boot up the game on your main account and access the DLC as normal.

It’s a bit of a pain, but at least there is a way to play the FF16 DLC regardless of what region your game is in. I went in knowing that the DLC really upped the game’s difficulty, but I didn’t expect that the increased difficulty would begin before the game even started.
