Everything You Need to Know about the Meadowlands Farm in Stardew Valley

The Meadowlands are one of the best early farm styles you can pick because of two reasons: you immediately get a coop with two chickens, and blue grass that animals love will naturally be on the land. This is a huge boon early in the game.

Chickens can generally only be purchased at Marnie’s Ranch for 800 gold or hatched from an egg you’re given, which will take 9,000 minutes to hatch when placed in an incubator. Each day, a mature chicken will lay an egg. But the real money maker with eggs is when you manage to get the Mayonnaise Machine. Mayonnaise sells for 190 – 285 gold depending on its quality.

You can get the Mayonnaise Machine once you reach Farming level 2, at which point the crafting recipe will be unlocked. Then, you can make the Mayonnaise Machine by combining 15 pieces of wood, 15 stone, 1 Copper Bar, and 1 Earth Crystal. Beyond mayonnaise, you can also make fried eggs, pancakes, and even crab cakes with eggs.

But every farm has its downsides. In this case, there are fewer tillable tiles and, according to the farm description, crops don’t grow as well on a Meadowlands farm. We’re still determining if this means that plants grow less quickly or at a lower quality. Likewise, when you select Meadowlands, you’ll get 15 hay instead of 15 parsnip seeds.

While parsnip doesn’t sell for much at only 35 gold per sale, they’re periodically requested on the help board outside of Pierre’s General Store. Turning in a parsnip for this quest will net you 105 gold. But eggs are also requested periodically on the help board, and they’ll net you 150 gold.

While the Meadowlands are beautiful, it’s also a great place to grab some of the best fish. Or you could instead focus on getting more hay for your new chicken family.
