Everything New in Tales of Eternia Remastered
The new Tales of Eternia is more than just a basic remaster.
Bandai Namco is bringing another classic Tales RPG to modern platforms with Tales of Eternia Remastered. Tales of Eternia Remastered mostly preserves the original adventure and its 2D combat system. However, Bandai Namco has introduced dozens of changes aimed at making the experience more approachable. Here’s everything new in Tales of Eternia Remastered.
All New Features and Improvements in Tales of Eternia Remastered
According to Bandai Namco’s official breakdown, the remaster features several gameplay adjustments, improved navigation, additional accessibility options, and new features for subsequent playthroughs. Here’s a breakdown of everything new in Tales of Eternia Remastered.
New Graphics and Sound Options
Tales of Eternia Remastered features improved visuals with support for switching between the original and remastered graphics at any time. Players can also independently switch between the original and updated sound effects.

The improvements primarily focus on preserving the game’s original art style instead of completely overhauling its environments and character designs. The updated interface remains consistent regardless of which graphics mode you choose.
New Boost Settings and Encounter Options
Tales of Eternia Remastered introduces several customizable Boost settings that let you adjust your progression and combat experience.
These include:
- Experience Boost: Increase earned experience by up to four times.
- Gald Boost: Increase the amount of money earned by up to four times.
- Damage Boost: Adjust battle damage by up to five times.
- Attack Proficiency: Boost Attack Proficiency by up to four times.
- Cooking Proficiency: Boost Cooking Proficiency by up to four times.
- Encounter Settings: Disable random enemy encounters entirely.

However, the damage multiplier can also affect incoming damage, so increasing it doesn’t necessarily make every encounter easier.
New Battle Features and Difficulty Settings
The original Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System returns, retaining the real-time 2D combat that distinguishes Tales of Eternia from more recent entries.
However, several additional options make battles more manageable:
- Battle Retry: Restart a regular battle after losing instead of returning to your previous save.
- Quick Recovery: Restore party members’ health and cure status ailments through a convenient menu option.
- High-Speed Auto-Battle: Speed up combat while using automatic battle controls.
- Extreme Difficulty: Available immediately without requiring a completed playthrough.
- Unknown Difficulty: A new difficulty setting that becomes available after completing the game.

These changes should make repeat encounters less time-consuming, especially for players who want to focus on the story rather than grinding.
Improved Navigation and Faster Movement
Tales of Eternia Remastered introduces new navigation markers to help players find important locations and objectives. Yellow exclamation marks indicate the next story destination, while other markers identify valuable items, limited-time events, and opportunities to learn new skills. Players can disable these icons if they prefer exploring without additional guidance.

There’s also a new high-speed movement option for traversing fields, towns, and dungeons. You can hold the movement button to travel faster or configure fast movement as the default.
Auto-Save, Skippable Cutscenes, and Improved Menus
Several smaller improvements have been introduced to reduce interruptions during gameplay.
These include:
- Auto-Save: Progress is automatically saved after events and transitions between maps.
- Pause and Skip: Events, skits, and movies can now be paused or skipped.
- Mini-Game Improvements: Some mini-games can be skipped or restarted.
- Menu Shortcuts: Players can load saves or return to the title screen directly from the menu.
- Control Customization: Controls can be customized for battles and exploration.
- Additional Settings: New brightness, volume, and accessibility options have been included.

Newly learned Artes and skills are also highlighted, making them easier to identify in the menus.
New Game Plus and Unlockable Content
Tales of Eternia Remastered now includes more flexible New Game Plus features. After completing the game, you can begin another playthrough and select which elements of your previous playthrough carry over.
These include character information, learned skills, equipment, cooking recipes, and encyclopedia progress. The optional Nereid’s Labyrinth dungeon is also available during the first playthrough after reaching Balir Castle. Previously, players had to complete the game before accessing this challenging endgame dungeon.
New Skit Viewer, Music Player, and Subtitles
You can now revisit previously viewed character conversations through a dedicated Skit Player. Most skits become available for replay during the first playthrough, with additional options unlocking after completing the game.
The new Sound Player also lets you listen to background music as you go. Subsequent playthroughs unlock additional options for reviewing character voices and movies.
The remaster includes English and Japanese voice options, subtitles for skits and certain mini-games, and optional battle subtitles for victory dialogue and Mystic Artes. You can also adjust subtitle presentation and other display settings for improved readability.
For returning fans, the biggest additions are undoubtedly the customizable Boost settings, removal of random encounters, and expanded New Game Plus features. The remaster keeps the original story and combat largely intact while providing considerably more control over how players experience this classic RPG.
