Elden Ring Nightreign is already a major hit for From Software, selling nearly 3.5 million copies in just five days. Despite some early hesitation, most players are enjoying their expeditions. That said, duo expeditions are notably absent in the current release, which is a sticking point for many players.

There is some hope here, though, and the demands for a duo mode have been acknowledged by From Software even before the launch of Elden Ring: Nightreign.

Duo Expeditions Confirmed for Elden Ring: Nightreign

After celebrating the 3.5 million sales of Elden Ring: Nightreign on X (formely Twitter), From Software confirmed in a reply that new additions will be gradually implemented along with duo expeditions coming at a “later” date.

Based on the wording of the reply, we know that the first thing coming later this month is enhanced fights against Nightlords, and duos should follow that. From Software hasn’t provided a concrete date, but it’s clear that the demand is high enough that they mentioned it specifically in the tweet.

Adding duos is taking a bit of time because the game was designed with three players in mind. This is evident from the solo mode, which hasn’t been balanced well and has been the target of multiple patches since launch. I’m sure From Software will focus on improving existing modes before introducing a new one, and things are already looking better for solo players.

Given the success of the game so far, though, it seems like a no-brainer to me, and the developers have been quite quick with addressing some of the existing annoyances with updates.

There is still no word on crossplay, though, which is another feature that fans have heavily requested since the game’s reveal, and it’s a bit odd that From Software hasn’t considered adding it to their major multiplayer release in 2025.

Overall, if you were writing off Elden Ring: Nightreign solely because of a lack of duo expeditions, then you’ll be happy to know that it’s coming eventually, and that’s probably when you want to pick it up. I think the solo mode is certainly playable, but it isn’t as fun because the game makes use of a full party in clever ways that don’t always translate well to a lone experience.
