EA Sports released their nominees for 2022’s Team of the Year. In a year where we saw Real Madrid reclaim the Champions League and Messi finally get his hands on that elusive World Cup title, they have selected 100 players for this year’s candidates.
When Does Voting Open and Close for EA Sports Team of the Year?
Voting opened on January 10 and will close later on Monday, January 16. Here in this post, we look at how many players have been chosen per position, what league have the most players nominated, and what country holds the most talent in Europe’s top leagues.

The English Premier League Is Running the Show
The English Premier League is proving it is the toughest competition and the one to beat, having the most nominees of all the top European leagues. The English top flight has 30 players with a chance to make EA Sports’ Team of the Year.
Coming in 10 less are both La Liga and Serie A. Both leagues have piped the Bundesliga. The remaining three leagues coming in behind the 16 of the top German league: Ligue 1 with 10 players, the Primeira Liga, and Eredivisie with one player nominated each.
What Country and Club Have the Most Players Nominated?
The country with the most players on the list is France. The former 2018 World Cup winners and runners-up of 2022 have a whopping 18 countrymen making the cut. Coming in with the second-most players are the “Samba Kings”, Brazil.
In third place, surprisingly, are the Spanish. Nine Spaniards have been nominated for a possible spot in the world’s best XI. The World champions Argentina only have seven players, which includes the G.O.A.T: Lionel Messi. England comes in fifth place, completing the top-five countries with the most players nominated in the 100-man list.
The club with the most players selected for 2022’s EA Team of the Year hails from the league with the most nominations. It is none other than Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who has the most candidates.
