Zhang Jiao is the leader of the Yellow Turban army, and they’ve been wreaking havoc all over the land in Chapter 1 of Dynasty Warriors Origins. You face off against him in The Final Battle against the Yellow Turbans quest, and he’s the toughest enemy you’ll face early on. This guide will give you tips to beat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors Origins
How to Beat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors Origins
Dodging is Key
The fight against Zhang Jiao starts as a 1v1 battle on an empty field. Unlike other enemies and officers you have faced so far, Zhang Jiao has access to magic and will regularly use it to hurl large rocks at you. Avoiding these rocks is important as they can chunk your health down quite quickly. When you see the rock attack animation, back away a bit and spam the dodge button in one direction. Jumping first makes this even easier as it throws off the tracking. This attack also leaves him vulnerable to counterattacks.
Grab the Healing Buns
If you use your Eyes of the Sacred Bird, you will spot 8 breakable pots near the large door at the arena entrance. If you’re running low on health, don’t hesitate to fall back and refill your healing supplies. But we suggest not using these until the second phase of the fight.
Pick the Right Weapons
We suggest taking on this fight with either a Sword or a Spear because of their speed and Battle Arts that can break Zhang Jiao’s shields. If you’re not confident in your parries, the Piercing Vengeance Battle Art on the spear lets you auto-parry as long as you have courage.
Manage Your Courage For Counterattacks
During the first phase, you should always make sure you have one Bravery saved up at all times. This lets you keep a Palm Strike or Piercing Vengeance(on spear) in reserve so you can counterattack or parry when Zhang Jiao tries an unblockable attack, or if you’re not confident in your perfect parry. Learning how to perfectly parry his normal attacks makes this fight a lot easier.
Fall Back When He Glows Red
When you take Zhang Jiao down to almost half of his HP, he will start pulling out his ultimate technique, which is summoning and hurling four giant boulders right at you. When you see him glow red, start running away as far as possible, as this is usually enough to avoid it. It’s possible to perfectly evade these, but we suggest you don’t risk this. Alternatively, you can cancel his attack by using your own Musou ability.
Dealing With the Large Force
Once he’s down to the last third of his health, a large force will appear to defend Zhang Jiao and he will start using tornadoes and lightning strikes. This is the hardest part of the fight, as you’re attacked from all directions. Luckily, you’ll have an attacking force to help you out here, too. Your goal should be to disband the Large Force as soon as possible to stop the tornados and lightning attacks. Focus on the enemy officers to quickly get rid of the Large Force. You can tell where the lightning will strike based on the glowing circles on the ground.
Finishing off Zhang Jiao
If you’ve successfully dodged and whittled his health down with your War God Rage mode and then disbanded his large force, finishing off Zhang Jiao is easy because he’s alone against your large force and officers in the end. His moveset remains the same, so as long as you watch out for the rock attacks, you should be able to take him down quickly.
