The cat was let out of the bag when Mortal Kombat 1 was announced when Ed Boon finally got his white whale for Mortal Kombat: Jean-Claude Van Damme is finally officially playable in a Mortal Kombat game. After initially wanting to use his likeness in the original Mortal Kombat arcade game, JCVD is finally landing in our homes after 30 years of waiting. However, are we going to have to listen to a sound-alike actor who is pretending to be the man himself, or were they able to secure his sultry voice for this Johnny Cage skin? Let’s find out.
Does Jean-Claude Van Damm Voice His Character In Mortal Kombat 1?
You’re hearing it right; that’s actually JCVD voicing himself for this addition to the Mortal Kombat franchise. The Belgian martial artist was the original choice for Johnny Cage during the original release of Mortal Kombat since it was initially supposed to be a Jean-Claude Van Damm fighting game. However, Midway and Boon could not secure his likeness for the project, so he was eventually put into the game in spirit as Johnny Cage.
However, we finally have the chance to play the Bloodsport actor in the newest edition of Mortal Kombat. While he may be a Johnny Cage skin, he does have unique dialogue for every character he squares off against, lends his voice to the grunts of pain, and even snaps out Johnny’s signature one-liners to keep the action flowing. It’s an incredible feat to finally see this in the game, and it seems it was well worth the wait.
