What are they hiding?

Now that Season 1 is around the corner and players are running out of content to grind at higher levels, recent claims have appeared that following rats can lead to good loot in Diablo 4. While it sounds like a plausible idea, I’ll go over how much of this is really a joke and whether there is some loot to be had.

Does Following the Rats Lead to Loot in Diablo 4?

Following rats in Diablo 4 will not bring you to better loot. As fun as the idea sounds, this is essentially a running joke that started on the Diablo 4 subreddit. One of the initial posts that gained traction was from user Zerger45 and was simply titled “Follow the Rats.”

The claim is that following rats in places like dungeons will lead you directly to some of the best loot you can find, like Legendary or Unique items. Players have even started supporting the theory with their own screenshots, meaning even more poor Sanctuary souls will chase the scurrying rats around dark dungeons.

Unfortunately, the reality is much less interesting. I followed plenty of rats around dungeons just to be sure. Even if the posts are a joke, there’s always a chance. However, I found absolutely nothing and felt more like a deranged Bloodborne character while I followed rats.

Of course, some players will find loot by following rats in Diablo 4. But that’s essentially just pure luck. Dungeons really aren’t that big, and out of thousands of players, some are going to find loot at the end of the rat rainbow. Most of us will just look like Diablo 4 monsters in the process.

While you follow the rats, be on the lookout for items like the Howl From Below in Diablo 4 for another great item.
