Sure, every companion is going to carry ammo with them, but you’re welcome to help yourself to it, with a catch: as long as they have 1 bullet, they can fire their gun endlessly. If you enter the “Let’s trade gear” option, you can take as many bullets as you would like.
If you accidentally take all of their bullets, transfer exactly one bullet back to them, and they’ll be ready to help out in tricky combat situations once again. They’ll never deplete it, so you’ll be ready to keep kicking pirate booty without any issue, even if they’re not fully stocked up on ammo. It’s also great because their spare bullets could save you in a life-or-death situation, so be sure to use that to your advantage.
