Can You Romance Fellow Players in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)?

Love is in the air

Romance is an integral part of Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) as the decisions you make will ultimately have an impact on your journey. Since you can enjoy all the content in single and multi-player sessions, many have wondered about romancing a fellow lobby member.

Is It Possible to Romance Other Players in Baldur’s Gate 3 Multiplayer?

While a direct method isn’t available, there’s a workaround if you want to romance your friend/partner in the game. This feature has been available since the game’s full launch, and the method hasn’t changed despite several hotfixes and full-sized patches.

When you’re playing with your friend, make sure that at least one of you has selected an origin character. If both of you choose custom characters, you won’t be able to romance with each other. However, that limitation gets removed when either or both of you have origin characters.

Principally, it’s the same way how romance works in the single-player mode. Whether you pick an origin character or make a custom creation, you can form a bond with one or more NPCs you encounter on your journey. The same rules will apply between you and your friend in a multiplayer session (assuming there’s at least one origin character).

It’s unlikely that romance between two customized characters will be possible in the future. However, the existing system is pretty neat, and it has become a favorite of many couples who play the game together.

However, don’t feel disappointed if, like me, you’ve been playing Baldur’s Gate 3 all alone. The game’s lively NPCs make the world feel vibrant, and every minute decision could result in a different outcome. Romancing certain characters would also worsen your in-game relationships with others, based on certain conditions.

Moreover, the game makes no strict conditions about whom you want to romance. This creates a unique system and makes every save game unique. Some characters, like Shadowheart, are incredibly popular in the community when it comes to a potential romance option.
