If there was ever a cure for things getting boring while Vault Hunting in Borderlands 3, we reckon it’d be a shiny new weapon. Sure, they might be a dime a dozen if you’re a veteran of looter shooters, but Borderlands 3 DLC content does not play around. Now that we’re gonna be cracking into a whole new wave of it, why not revisit a real powerhouse from Mad Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot? Yes, we’re talking the Borderlands 3 Ion Cannon Legendary rocket launcher.

So, wondering why you might want to add the Ion Cannon legendary to your arsenal of already deadly weapons? We’ll keep it simple for you – it hurts. The special weapon effect of the Ion Cannon is called “Fun detected. Obliterate.” and if that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know then, well. Come on, mate. The weapon special effect is great because it gives the Ion Cannon, word for word, drastically increased weapon damage. Sure, you’re going to use up 6 bullets at a time when you shoot, and it has a charge up time, but you can get incredibly accurate when you’re using this rocket launcher and honestly, it’ll make it easy to pick off enemies at a distance before they can even give you any trouble.

This particular Vladof weapon is definitely incredibly impressive, and it can spawn either without an element or as the following element types:

  • Corrosive
  • Cryo
  • Incendiary
  • Radiation

Now, you might be wondering how someone actually picks up the Ion Cannon. Lucky for you, the answer is pretty simple as well. It’s just honestly too easy. You can only get the Ion Cannon from one boss in the entire game, and we’re talking a DLC boss i.e. you have to have gunned through the main game and Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot. You have to kill the Fabricator in Jack’s Secret to get the Ion Cannon, and no other enemy will do. We’re actually quite relieved that it’s not just about praying for someone to kick in the right toilet when it comes to loot, but it does mean that if you’re just starting out in your Borderlands 3 adventures, that you’re going to be gated from getting this. Well, all we can recommend is patience!

If you’re someone who has looked at our Borderlands 3 Ion Cannon guide and decided to pick up the Legendary rocket launcher for yourself then congratulations! We reckon you’ve made the right choice. Sure, it requires you to have first gunned through the Mad Moxxi DLC, but it’s well worth it for the serious firepower that it’s packing.
