Shields in Tears of the Kingdom are hotbeds of utility. They might not be as flashy as swangin’ around a big skeleton arm attached to a pitchfork or whatever, but they’re useful nonetheless. I’m here with a few suggestions to help you get the most bang for your buck when it comes to the Fuse ability, shields, and the potential that lies within. Here are the best Shield fuse combinations in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The Best Shield Fuse Combinations for Combat in Tears of the Kingdom

These Fuse combos are focused on damaging or otherwise entirely taking foes out of commission. They’re not all created equal, but in the right hands they’ll change the tide of battle.

Electric or Frost Keese Wings

Remember how shields can parry? If you don’t, you’re probably like me and just don’t bother trying, opting to dodge instead. But did you know that by parrying with a shield (L + A), you can sometimes “activate” its Fused ability? This is where Keese Wings come in.

An electric or ice Keese Wing stuck to the front of our shield gives us a short-range status applicator when we parry right up in an enemy’s face. This is incredibly powerful against single, powerful foes, as it can freeze them solid or stun them with the press of a button. The best part? This is very easy on shield durability, meaning you’ll be able to use it again and again.

Puffshrooms

This is a bit obvious, but a Puffshroom on the front of your shield will explode into a cloud of smoke when struck, giving you the opportunity to Sneak Strike enemies from behind for massive damage. You can also use this opportunity to disengage from the battle entirely if you need to regroup.

Beam Emitters

Specifically, Beam Emitters on Zonaite Shields with a higher efficiency are great for taking out long-range and aerial foes. Just lock on and hold your shield up using the L button to blast enemies from afar.

The Best Shield Fuse Combinations for Traversal in Tears of the Kingdom

These Fuse combos are going to be focused on getting around quickly, be it ascending vertically or ripping down slopes via shield surfing.

Carts

Zonaite Carts are incredibly useful when fused to a shield, as they make shield surfing possible on any terrain (even Gloom!). The only downside to these is that surfing still breaks them pretty quickly, so I’d suggest using these on your most durable shields.

Rockets

Rockets fused to shields are a great way to quickly gain altitude and gracefully transition into a glide.

Springs

Zonaite Springs are, at a certain point, even more plentiful than Rockets, and can be used to traverse large gaps. Simply begin a shield surf with a Spring Fused to your shield to launch into the air, then use your glider to descend.

Where To Find Fuse Materials in Tears of the Kingdom

You can find Keese Wings on their respective “types,” with Fire Keese most commonly being found around Death Mountain and Ice Keese in the Hebra Mountains.

The Zonaite Devices, on the other hand, can be found inside Zonaite Device Dispensers at the cost of Zonai Charges. If you need help getting started on these, check out our guide on using a Device Dispenser right here.
