The M16 is currently the only burst rifle that can be used in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play, and some players seem to feel right at home with the weapon. However, this is not an easy weapon to use at all, and we don’t recommend picking it up in any ranked modes.
With that said, if you’re adamant about using the M16 in MW2 Ranked Play, it’s better to be prepared than to go in blind. There are at least a couple of benefits to the burst rifle and we’re going to cover exactly how you can utilize those in our MW2 loadout guide.
COD MW2 Ranked Play – Best M16 Loadout
When the weapon works well, burst damage is the main benefit of using this classic assault rifle. Sometimes, one burst is all it takes to take down a player. But the rifle is wildly inconsistent and has a ton of issues with range and recoil control. Below you can find attachments to help minimize those issues.
M16 Ranked Play Loadout:
- Muzzle: FJX Fulcrum Pro
- Underbarrel: Edge-47 Grip
- Rear Grip: XTEN Grip
- Optic: Cronen Mini Pro
- Ammunition: 5.56 High Velocity
To start off this loadout, we need some recoil control pieces that can manage the insane kick of each burst. Both the FJX Fulcrum Pro muzzle and the Edge-47 Grip underbarrel should be enough to center the bursts. Range will still be difficult, but close and medium-range fights will feel more consistent.
Next, we want to add the XTEN Grip rear grip and the 5.56 High Velocity ammunition to the MW2 M16. The XTEN Grip is our one attachment that will help with mobility. It would be nice to have more, however, the other support pieces are more important. Having the velocity ammo will help with range and bullet speed instead.

Our last attachment for the Ranked Play M16 is the Cronen Mini Pro optic. When it’s possible, iron sights are a better option for most weapons. In this case, the irons on the M16 are too invasive in MW2 and the optic will help with accuracy. Consistency should go up as well.
