Where to Find the Magic Mirror in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

You can find the Magic Mirror in your campsite. Its exact location will depend on how far you’ve progressed through Baldur’s Gate 3 and where your camp is situated. For example, in the beginning regions of Act One, the Magic Mirror is inside a building. As you progress into Acts Two and Three, you will find it along cliff walls and inside different structures.

Below are examples of where you’ll find the Magic Mirror in each Act:

  • Baldur's Gate 3 Act One Magic Mirror
  • Baldur's Gate 3 Act Two Magic Mirror
  • Baldur's Gate 3 Act Three Magic Mirror

Warning:

There’s a Magic Mirror bug that will prevent you from customizing your character if you have any mods running. To get around this bug, make sure you turn off mods before accessing the Magic Mirror, then turn them back on once you’re done.

Upon interacting with the Magic Mirror, you’ll enter a character customization screen where you can change your appearance. You can change the following features in the Magic Mirror customization screen:

  • Name.
  • Identity.
  • Voice.
  • Face.
  • Scarring.
  • Skin Color.
  • Maturity.
  • Freckle Quantity / Intensity.
  • Vitiligo Pigmentation.
  • Genitals.
  • Eye Color.
  • Heterochromia.
  • Body Art.
  • Eye Colour.
  • Makeup.
  • Hair Style and Colour.

Alternatively, you can randomize your appearance. However, while you can modify numerous aspects of your looks, you can’t change your race/subrace or body type.

Who Can Use the Magic Mirror?

Any custom player character can make full use of the Magic Mirror in BG3, but there are a few additional limits for other characters who you may want to use the Magic Mirror with. If you are playing as an Origin Character such as Gale, Shadowheart, Lae’zel, etc., you cannot change their looks. Similarly, a full-illithid character cannot change their appearance nor can you get rid of any body-altering effect from gameplay choices such as a half-illithid character’s affliction to their face and body or the fake eye you may end up with thanks to Volo.

If you want to change a Hireling‘s appearance, they can also make full use of the Magic Mirror. This will essentially let you play with a full custom party if you’d prefer, although they don’t have their own voice lines, and you may miss out on some of the excellent interactions between Origin characters.

Where to Find the Ornate Mirror

You can find the Ornate Mirror in the Blighted Village in Act 1. It’s another magic mirror in Baldur’s Gate 3, but this one wants to talk to you, and it has nothing to do with character customization. Instead, it’s blocking the entrance to a secret lab containing a very special book.

The Ornate Mirror will ask you three sets of questions when you interact with it:

QuestionAnswer
“What think you of the zulkir known as Szass Tam?”“A foul lich. May he die a thousand more deaths.”
“Tell me, why might one use balsam ointment?”“To clean a wound?”
“If you could see anything in me, what would it be?”“I’d look for whatever spell will rid me of this worm in my head.”

The Ornate Mirror will be located in the Hidden Cellar beneath the big house you’ll find on your left side when entering the village. There will be an entrance to the cellar blending in with the floorboards, which you can interact with.

That’s it for the Magic Mirror in BG3. Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5 and soon to be on Xbox Series X|S. To learn more about the game, check out how to fix Karlach’s Infernal Engine in BG3, or click the game tag below to explore our growing article list.
