To stop the Guardian Statues, you will need to interact with the glowing blue panels that can be found throughout the Underground Passage. How exactly you end up doing this can vary a lot, depending on your party and which Guardian Statue you are dealing with. The most useful things at this point are as follows:

  • Mage Hand.
  • Potion in Invisibility.
  • Spells that will make you invisible.
  • Turning on Turn-Based Mode when you need to.

The Eagle Guardian Statue can be found just inside the entrance from the Emeral Grove Environs at X:172 Y:423. This is an interesting one as not only will it hit you with fireballs, there is a leaking oil barrel nearby to really add to your troubles. This part can get really messy if you do it wrong, so make sure you save before you get too adventurous in this area.

If you are lucky, you will have Gale in your party, who will have the Mage Hand Spell. Toggle into Turn-Based Mode using the button located on the bottom right of your HUD, and this will help to tame the Guardian Statue a little. Now, it shall be assigned a turn instead of just endless blasting out Fireballs.

Use Gale to cast Mage Hand beside the switch, then end Gale’s turn. The Mage Hand should be next in the order, and you can right-click on the panel and use Mage Hand to turn it off, silencing the state for good. If you don’t have Mage Hand, then invisibility potions or spells will let you get past the statue without getting lit up by the fires of hell.

The Bear Guardian Statue

The Bear Guardian Statue can be found near the Entrance from Enclave Library at X:-457 Y:37. There will be a group of Goblins near this one that you will also need to deal with. It’s a good idea to hold the high ground, take out all the Goblins, and then reset your Turn-Based Mode so that you can once again take advantage of Mage Hand, should you need to. You may need a short rest if you have already used it, so a Potion of Invisibility or spell will also work.

You can get a Potion if Invisibility from Auntie Ethel back in Druid’s Grove. You may even have enough movement to reach the tablet on foot, as long as you avoid the mud that will be considered difficult ground.

How to Save Findal

On the ground in this area, you will find Findal. He has a single hitpoint left and can be revived via a health potion or healing spell. It is no more complicated than that to get the little guy back on his feet after he was set upon by the Goblins. Any healing spell at all will get him on his feet, no matter how much you actually heal with it.

If you happen to have the Folk Hero background when you save Findal, it will net you an Inspiration Point.

The Wolf Guardian Statue

This is the most awkward one, and you may need to come back after some rest if you need spell slots or items. You first need to jump the chasm to reach the central rocks. Don’t worry. Any fireballs will get caught on the lip of the stone. After that, the same rules apply. Set Turn-Based Mode, and then do whatever you can to get to the tablet at the bottom.

At the bottom, you will also find a corpse. This is the real reason we want to get here. Please note: If you have already opened the heavy chest, you don’t really need to get down here. Check the body to find a Charred Key, 5 Gold, and 1 Fire Amber. Now, go back to where the Eagle Guardian Statue was, and you will find a chest at X:-424, Y:-203.

The two ways to open the Heavy Chest in the Underground Passage are to either disarm the traps that keep looters at bay, then pick the lock, or get the Charred Key as described above. You will need a Trap Disarm Kit that can be purchased from Arron at Druid’s Grove nearby. You will also need a lockpick to open the chest. Astarion is a great character to use for this, especially if you have set him up as a Thief.

The chest will contain 1 Nature’s Snare, 19 Gold, and 1 Potion of Feather Fall. Nature’s Snare is a quarterstaff that will do 1-8 Bludgeoning damage and has a chance to ensnare a target if it is not a plant or a beast.

BG3: Nature’s Snare Stats

While the staff itself isn’t all that impressive, it’s worth a bit of gold and somewhat useful for early game. However, you’ll soon find better staves within the game, so don’t count on it lasting long. Here are the stats for the Nature’s Snare staff.

  • Rarity: Uncommon.
  • Value: 400 GP.
  • Damage: 1-8 Bludgeoning.
  • Versatile.
  • Fly Trap: Chance to Ensnare target if it is not a plant or a beast.
  • Quarterstaff.
  • Topple.
  • Weight: 1.8kg.

You may have heard the Goblins talking about a Druid that is in trouble. At first, it seems this will be Findal, but it could just as easily apply to Halsin whom you also have to save.
