Alan Wake 2 The Lake House has only one boss fight, which players will encounter right before the very end. It’s against Diana Marmont, or more precisely, the taken version of her, and she’s quite creepy, to say the least. She isn’t the only threat in this crimson-lit arena, and if you’re having a hard time taking her down, we have you covered.

Alan Wake 2 The Lake House – Diana Marmont Boss Fight

Diana Marmont isn’t the most difficult fight, and the environment allows you to get around her attacks with ease. We’ll break down her moves and what approach you should take throughout the fight.

The fight starts with Diane menacingly walking towards you. Take out your flashlight, and give her a good dose of photon energy.

This will slow her down for a bit, and you can unload your pistol’s magazine into her skull. You can also shotgun her as well, but it’s best to reserve that for later.

Now, if you deal enough damage, you can actually skip past her incoming attacks, and she’ll jump toward one of the higher platforms. However, there’s a chance you miss a few headshots, and she’ll likely dash toward you with a two-hit combo. You can dodge both of these punches and try to get a rhythm for the second one because it’s a bit delayed. The hitbox is a bit unreliable as well, so try to maintain some distance.

If you create some distance between yourself and her, she’ll respond by charging up for a Superman punch. You definitely want to dodge that because it can take out a good chunk of your health. It’s pretty easy to dodge, though, and the wind-up animation is supported by a sound cue as well.

An easier way to get around the two-hit combo and the Superman punch is to always have some obstacle between yourself and Diane. This renders her attacks useless, and she’ll always attack to the side.

Don’t get too comfortable, though, and keep your distance, because even after dodging her Superman punch, you can be hit thanks to a reverse punch. After you’ve dealt enough damage, Diane will jump on a platform.

She’ll pick up boulders and throw them at you. You’ll have to dodge these as well, or you’ll lose a lot of health. An easy way to skip these entirely is by running towards the platform she’s currently standing on and standing right next to the wall underneath her.

This also gives you some breathing room to heal up or grab items from the boxes scattered around the arena. During this phase, a paint monster will also join Diane to annoy you. You know the drill, load up the Paint-Monster-Killing gun and watch them turn to dust.

Just keep an eye out for Diane, and make sure she isn’t throwing a boulder at the same time. After that, use your pistol to shoot Diane a few times, and she’ll jump back to the ground.

Rinse and repeat, and you’ll eventually get her health down enough for the kill. An easy visual indicator to see how well the fight is progressing is to see her body. She’ll lose a lot of her flesh as she’s down on her health. Make sure to liberally use the shotgun here, as it’s super effective against her, like every other enemy in the game.

That’s all there is to it, and she’s not that hard but definitely packs a punch if you get caught in practically any of her attacks. It’s a bit annoying to deal with the paint monster along with her, but as long as you keep an eye on both enemies, it’s nothing.

Potential Alternate Strategy

At the start of the fight, after you burn down her taken energy with the flashlight, if you unload your pistol fast enough and deal enough damage in a short burst, you can stun Diane almost completely. This essentially skips the entire fight if you keep shooting her with the pistol, followed by the shotgun when she regains her senses. You can watch the fight play out below. (Gore Warning)

We’re unsure if this was a bug, or if this actually a viable approach, but you can practically finish the fight before it has started if you’re fast and accurate enough.

The Lake House expansion is a short but fun adventure that continues to expand the Remedy shared universe and has teasers for upcoming projects as well. When you aren’t fighting mad scientists, though, make sure to unlock all the computers in the Lake House facility in Alan Wake 2.
