A Plague Tale: Requiem, the sequel to 2019’s A Plague Tale: Innocence, officially launched on October 18, 2022. This time, unlike the previous game in the series, A Plague Tale: Requiem has difficulty settings, allowing gamers to explore Asobo Studio’s sequel with one of three options: Narrative, Normal, or Hard. This guide will discuss these settings and their differences in order to help you decide which difficulty is right for you.
Narrative
The Narrative difficulty is the “easy mode” of A Plague Tale: Requiem. It is described in the settings as, “Making a gripping journey with a focus on exploration and story.” Ultimately, as Requiem’s easiest difficulty, the length of time it takes for the game to provide hints (also known as “Help frequency”) is short and combat is easier, with helpful indicators above enemies’ heads that show their awareness level of Amicia.
Normal
The Normal difficulty is the middle challenge of A Plague Tale: Requiem, and the overall standard experience of the game. It is described in the settings as, “A well-rounded trip, offering the best balance between adventure and challenges.” The help frequency takes longer than the Narrative Difficulty, but combat and stealth also feature the aforementioned helpful enemy icons.

Hard
The Hard difficulty is the greatest challenge available in A Plague Tale: Requiem. It is described in the settings as, “An intense battle for survival wrapped up with merciless conditions.” There are two major differences that separate it from Narrative and Normal. Firstly, the help frequency takes the longest, leaving players to their own devices to figure out how to progress when they are stuck, and the user interface does not provide any indicators or icons notifying players of enemy awareness, requiring true mastery of A Plague Tale: Requiem’s gameplay mechanics in order to survive.

Final Thoughts
Hopefully, through a better understanding of the difficulty settings, you are better equipped to make a decision on which challenge level you will choose to experience Hugo and Amicia’s newest adventure. The difficulty settings are entirely optional, as there are no trophies or achievements linked to completing A Plague Tale: Requiem on any specific difficulty.
