How to Get Shiny Aerodactyl in Pokemon GO

A shiny fossil!

As Trainers get ready for the Crackling Voltage event in Pokemon GO, one of the classic Fossil Pokemon has made a return through Mega Raids. Mega Aerodactyl will be back in the game from January 25 to February 1, and it could be the perfect time to pick up a new shiny.

Ever since the Kanto Tour event went live a few years ago, each of the original 151 has had their shiny forms added to Pokemon GO, including Aerodactyl. Compared to many other Kanto Region spawns, though, the Fossil Pokemon can be tough to find. We’ll go over how you can look for a shiny Aerodactyl in this guide.

Pokemon GO – How to Get Shiny Aerodactyl

Shiny Pokemon are already tough enough to find in Pokemon GO and the low spawn rate of Aerodactyl doesn’t make the process any better. During certain events, the Fossil Pokemon will be used as Special Research or Field Research rewards. In rare cases, it can have a low wild spawn rate. Your best bet, though, is to rely on raids and that is true here as well.

Mega Aerodactyl can be battled in raids while Crackling Voltage is live, and as a reward encounter upon victory, Trainers will have a chance to catch the standard Aerodactyl. Each time you reach the reward encounter, there is a chance for a shiny to appear. Raid bosses typically have a 1 in 30 chance of being shiny, so you’ll have some great odds if you can will the battle.

Aside from raids, you’re going to have a long time to wait and really low odds of getting a shiny purple Fossil Pokemon. Even if the winged Pokemon starts to spawn in the wild, the odds are about 1 in 500. But you never know when the next encounter will be a good one in Pokemon GO.
