Today we got a glimpse of some next-gen gameplay footage of NBA 2K21 alongside some developer commentary. As we ramp up towards the release of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S this seems to only be the beginning of it.

In the clip, which can be seen below, we get about four minutes of gameplay. We also look at some of the team’s character models, courtside reporters, staff, and coaches.
The developer commentary is provided by Executive Producer Erick Boenisch and Gameplay Director Mike Wang. They show off a new gameplay camera the devs are calling “Real Cam,” which is a much lower camera that follows the players during the game.
It’s a much more dynamic camera system that allows players to hone in on the action and feel like they are courtside at the game.
They also announced that there is a new announcing crew, which will help keep commentary feeling fresh as the game will cycle between different crews to keep each match commentary feeling new and exciting.
Another new feature shown off in the gameplay demo is the brand-new contact alley-oop. This allows players to mix and match just how they want to go in for those team dunks.
NBA 2K21 uses a new foot plant technology to make the running and stopping animations more fluid and stop players from looking like they are sliding across the court when the motion gets too fast.
The gameplay clip is short, but it’s an excellent look at what developers are already capable of doing on new hardware. We’re excited to see what the future of this new generation of consoles has in store for video games.
