Winter Burrow’s First Major Update Promises Map and Quality of Life Improvements
Finally!
There has been no shortage of cozy games over the last few years, and blending the calm with survival elements is a sure-fire way to get a lot of players interested. Winter Burrow from earlier this month was just that, but it really felt incomplete without an actual map.
Following extensive feedback, Pine Creek Games has announced a map feature, enhanced storage, and a range of quality-of-life improvements for its upcoming first major update.
Map Coming to Winter Burrow
Currently, there is no map in Winter Burrow, which means that you are at the mercy of your footsteps to make your way around and learn all the routes on your own. On paper, this sounds like a pretty good idea, but the problem is that the locations in the game do not have enough landmarks or visual variety to justify this design choice. Thankfully, after plenty of feedback, all of that is changing with the game’s first major update.
The developers announced on Steam that Winter Burrow is getting a map that will include all the areas you have unlocked and the area you are currently in. The map will not give your exact position because the developers feel that exploration will suffer if too much is given away. I think that this compromise works and should give players enough direction and insight into how much ground they have covered and how the world connects.
Other Planned Improvements
The map isn’t the only new addition here because the developers have confirmed that storage is getting a much-needed revamp as well. You will now be able to sort items, and storage will be separated into each single craftable storage unit. The developers also confirmed that you’ll be able to rebind controls, and the general keyboard and mouse experience is something they’re working on making smoother.
You can read the complete announcement post on Steam here for everything else mentioned.
I think the lack of a map was holding back the game quite a bit, and this is a welcome change to make the harsh winter a bit more bearable.
