PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has sold over 10 million copies of the game just on PC, and as the game gears up for its release on the Xbox One Game Preview program, questions of whether Microsoft will support cross-platform play have begun to roll in. Now, we know that Brendan Greene has stated multiple times that he’d love to support cross-platform play on the Xbox One and PC versions of the game, but unfortunately, the decision isn’t just up to him.
Of course, there are plenty of things to keep in mind when thinking about cross-play between PC and consoles, and while the recently revealed control layout for the Xbox One version of the game is innovative, and no doubt will allow players to compete in the game, there’s still the worry of whether a controller can keep up with the speed of a mouse and keyboard.
This is only something the developers can answer, and we’re sure that they’ll put in ample testing time before they make any final decisions. For now, though, players will have to pick up the game on the platform that they want to play with their friends on. The good news is, it costs the same price on both platforms, as we discussed in our article about how much PUBG costs on Xbox One. This is good news for those wanting to give the game a try on console—whether because they feel more comfortable on the console, or if they just want to try it out for themselves.
For now, we’ll simply have to wait until Microsoft decides, and they’ve yet to publish any news on the feature. Lately Microsoft has made a big push for cross-play compatibility, but that’s mostly been between the Xbox One version of the games and the Windows 10 Store edition. The good news is, players can start diving into the Xbox One version of the game tomorrow, December 12. It’s unclear whether the Xbox One version of the game will launch with the same features as the PC, or if it will be behind for the moment as they catch everything up.
