What Fighters Should Be Added To PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale?

We rattle off our dream DLC list for Sony's multiplayer brawler.
This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

The wait is over. After months of speculating and playing it on both PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale has arrived. This multiplayer brawlfest lets you control one of various Sony heroes (as well as third party characters like DMC: Devil May Cry’s Dante and Metal Gear Rising Revengeance’s Raiden) as you fight for superiority on a happily cluttered battleground. The game is playable both online and off, so you can have fun with your friends either way.

The roster isn’t just stopping at the 20+ fighters offered in the beginning. Two more will be added via DLC in 2013, free of charge, including the Gravity Rush star Kat and the heavily armed Starhawk hero Emmett Graves.

What other fighters do you think should be added? We can think of a few superstar names that would definitely fit right in to Battle Royale’s over-the-top shenanigans. Here now are our suggestions. And if you have some, feel free to suggest them in the comments below. Who knows? SuperBot Entertainment (the game’s developer) just might be reading…

Robbit (Jumping Flash! series)

We know that SuperBot has paid attention to old-school Sony franchises from the PS1 days, as they added Sir Dan from Medievil. So why not throw in someone that can do some major damage, like the high-jumping automated rabbit from the Jumping Flash! series? He packs plenty of high-caliber weaponry (even if it is named mostly after candy) and he can easily call in reinforcements for his Level 3 super, namely a bunch of Muu Muu aliens that stomp all over the screen and crush enemies flat. This would definitely be a nostalgic favorite for the cast.

Connor (Assassin’s Creed III)

Assassin’s Creed has made its presence felt in fighting games before – just check out Ezio Auditore di Firenze in this year’s Soul Calibur V – so why couldn’t Connor do some damage in Battle Royale? He’d fight right in with his tomahawks and his nimble leaping ability, as well as his bow and arrows, which would make him deadly from a distance. And for his super? Call in George Washington’s troops and gun down everyone in sight for some quick points. Maybe even bring in Haytham for some tag team action as well…

Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)

With Square Enix set to release the long-awaited reboot to Tomb Raider this March, we couldn’t think of a better time to thrust young Lara Croft into the limelight than with PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale. Despite her youth, she could really do some damage with her twin pistols and other close weapons, while moving out of harm’s way rather quickly. As far as a super, how about dropping a ship on everyone? It’s not like there’s much else use for it, as you’ve seen in Tomb Raider’s trailer…

Crash Bandicoot

It’s been highly requested amongst Sony fans, so we figure now would be the best time for SuperBot to cozy up next to Activision Blizzard and get a deal worked out to put the iconic Bandicoot somewhere in the game. He’s a favorite from the PS1 games of yesteryear, and his spin and jump attacks would be worthwhile when it comes to fighting enemies. As for his super, how about wearing a Tiki mask and running wild all over the stage? That’d be hilarious.

Atlas and P-Body (Portal 2)

A lot of people keep suggesting Gordon Freeman from the Half-Life series for Battle Royale. But we’re going to take a different route, instead suggesting the twin robots that inhabit Portal 2’s co-op campaign. Not only will they be able to unleash some up-close attacks that could do some damage, but they can also use portals to get the jump behind enemies or send them flying into danger. And for the level 3 super? How about calling upon good ol’ GLADoS to shoot ’em to the moon? SPAAAAAACE!

Garrus Vakarian (Mass Effect)

Again, most folks like going with the popular favorite, in this case Commander Shepard, for suggested fighters in Battle Royale. But we like to go off the beaten path, so we’ll instead suggest one of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunters, Garrus Vakarian. He can do some major damage with his weaponry, and he can also deliver a vicious up-close blow with a blade. And for his super? Well, Shepard can come in with the Normandy and blast everyone off the stage. We’d be all for that.

Nathan Hale (Resistance)

Yes, he’s DEAD. We get it, he’s not coming back in the Resistance franchise. But, hey, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale has a bunch of Chimera in it, so why can’t we bring Hale back for a second go-around? He can bring his rifle and some devastating Chimeran strength with him, as well as the ability to reverse someone’s move on them and send them flying. And for his level three super? How about locking on to everyone with the Bullseye? You just can’t escape those attacks.

Agent 47 (Hitman series)

This bald assassin recently made his comeback in today’s release of Hitman: Absolution, so why can’t he make a run for some kills in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale? Along with his traditional Silverballers pistols, he can do some damage with piano wire, grabbing enemies and flinging them around. He can also pull out a sniper rifle and do damage from a distance, if needed. And for his level 3 super? How about calling in an agency helicopter to shoot everyone down? (Considering he’s making nice with them, of course.)

Cloud (Final Fantasy)

Last but certainly not least, let’s go with another nostalgic treat from the PS One days – the heroic Cloud from the original Final Fantasy. He’s got a powerful sword that can easily chop enemies up, as it did in the old Square Enix brawler Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring. And his supers can mix up quite a bit, whether it’s calling on a Moogle to attack from above or a fleet of Chocobos to run everyone down. He could even call upon Sephiroth to take everyone out, if he’s willing.

PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is available now for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.
