Square Enix Fixes Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster’s Train Suplex

Welcome to Suplex City, gamers

As we approach the release date for the final entry in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series, we still haven’t been able to shake the font thing. Tons of people are mad about it, and Square Enix has mostly ignored it. But another, much more glaring issue was found with Final Fantasy VI, and it was fixed pretty quickly. The train suplex was messed up!

Just a few days ago, a simple tweet from the official Final Fantasy feed showed off one of Final Fantasy VI’s most memorable moments in all its Pixel Remaster glory. One of Sabin’s skills, originally localized as “Suplex,” would toss enemy sprites up in the air then crash back upside down. It looks pretty awesome despite the “Meteor Strike” thing, but fans noticed an important detail – the train wasn’t upside down! Yanking the massive train sprite up and flipping it over with Suplex is a famous, hilarious and probably unintentional moment.

It was definitely a bummer, but just a few days later Square Enix acknowledged the matter, and stated the clip was taken from an older build. Final Fantasy VI is still undergoing “polish” and according to the tweet the train will indeed flip upside down in the final release version.

Yes, this is a very silly thing. But this is what it’s like to pay attention to Final Fantasy on the internet. You start caring about things like train suplex minutiae. It’s rough out there. Anyway here’s the original Train Suplex:
