Sea of Thieves has been out for just three weeks, yet the developers at Rare have already knocked out a content plan for the coming months filled with regular updates and new features. Many of the changes coming to Sea of Thieves are the result of player feedback, as the goal is to have the game evolve based on input from the Sea of Thieves community. Rare has made an in-depth video covering the major aspects of their Sea of Thieves content plan, which you can watch below.

The upcoming content updates for Sea of Thieves have been broken down into a series of events, each with their own features and mechanics. The first content update for Sea of Thieves is titled The Hungering Deep and is scheduled to arrive in early May.

According to Rare’s content update, The Hungering Deep will introduce new AI enemies to Sea of Thieves as part of a special event. Much like with Skeleton Forts, players will have to work together to take down this new threat. The Hungering Deep event will also add new gameplay mechanics and rewards.

Two more content updates are planned for Sea of Thieves this year. Cursed Sails, the second event to arrive after The Hungering Deep update, will debut during the summer and will introduce a new type of ship. The Forsaken Shores will be the third of these content updates and will broaden the horizon of the game by bringing players to a new location. These events will include new AI threats, gameplay mechanics, and rewards as well. Along with these major content updates, Sea of Thieves will also begin conducting weekly events for players to partake in, which will include new goals and rewards for players to achieve.

Sea of Thieves content roadmap

In an effort to prioritize the events in this new content roadmap, Rare has decided to postpone some of the other features they had planned for the game, including pets.

“Based on feedback since launch, we have changed the priorities for both Pets and Ship Captaincy which we had previously announced as things we would look to add in the few months after launch,” said Rare. “These are on the backburner for now whilst we add to the game in other areas. Expect our plans to continue to be fluid but always with the goals listed above as our guiding principles.”
