Splinter Cell: Conviction is to feature a multiplayer mode, Ubisoft have revealed at E3.

“We’re going to have a multiplayer, but I can’t talk about it anymore than that. It’s part of the things we’re going to announce during the summer,” Alexandre Parizeau, Conviction’s producer, explained to Joystiq.

“DLC? Yes, it’s always part of our strategies. We always want to keep the content fresh, so as soon as the team is done with the game we can move on and continue expanding the experience,” he continued, going on to confirm the May release date for the game.

Despite the fact multiplayer has been a pretty common feature in Splinter Cell games of the past, Ubisoft have been playing the old bloody stoney extraction game when it comes to confirmation on the issue.

The demo on show featured a lot more rather violent hand-to-hand combat than the previously hinted-at Assassin’s Creed style of play.

The aforementioned techniques are, Parizeau explained, “still a part of the game” apparently. “But we grounded it in a direction that feels more like a Splinter Cell game,” he added, before going on to reveal that light and dark will still be key features.

There’s a new feature in Conviction: Mark and Execute, which allows the player to assess a situation, pick targets, and then move in with force, swiftly attacking the pre-spotted targets.

“You’re supposed to be like Jack Bauer. You’re Sam Fisher, the best elite agent in the world. You’re supposed to be able to do that kind of stuff,” said Parizeau.
