Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell Could Become a Movie

Time for Sam Fisher to hit the sliver screen?

Ubisoft is dead serious about keeping its Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell fresh and innovative.  This past week at E3, it introduced a new game in the series, Blacklist, that follows a younger Fisher as he goes through his paces in terrorist camps overseas.  But that could very well be just the beginning for our fearsome hero.

According to a report from Deadline.com, Paramount Pictures is in negotiations with Ubisoft to obtain the film rights to Splinter Cell, bringing Fisher to the big screen for the first time.  This marks the second attempt at Ubi to discuss bringing the franchise to film, after previous negotiations with Warner Bros. fell through.  Paramount is well known for producing works based on Tom Clancy books.

“Ubisoft will be very involved and retain control over how the game is translated into film,” stated the article.  Whether that bodes well for whoever is working on the film is yet to be seen, since directors and writers seem to have their own “visions” at times.

Still, the prospect for a good film franchise is there, provided that Ubisoft stays concerned about how the content comes across.  Don’t look for it for quite awhile, but do look for Blacklist when it arrives in 2013.
