Rovio Cleans Up On Angry Birds Downloads For the Holidays

There were a lot of people flinging birds this holiday season. That's not a bad thing.

As Christmas came and went, millions of people got into mobile gaming for the first time with their new tablet and phone devices.  And you can bet that a large handful of those immediately went to Rovio’s Angry Birds as their go-to experience for testing out their new device.

Rovio has reported some big sales numbers for the franchise, with over eight million Angry Birds downloads (including their newest game, Angry Birds Star Wars) on Christmas day alone.  In terms of the holiday week, ranging from December 22nd through the 29th, over 30 million people took part in downloads, trying their luck at various stages.

Keep in mind this doesn’t include the number of rounds played in Facebook (which is extremely popular – one of the service’s most played games), nor the sales of Activision’s retail package of Angry Birds Trilogy for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 – both of which are quite popular, despite the higher price.

The Angry Birds aren’t slowing down anytime soon.  Why stop a good thing?
