A few nuggets of information regarding upcoming survival horror zombie romper Resident Evil 5 have been unleashed upon the unsuspecting.

The facts have been revealed by Japanese magazine Famitsu (with a translation from IGN), who grabbed an interview with producer Jun Takeuichi.

The action appears to be set in a desert village, where Chris has been sent out to see what’s going on.  Upon arrival Chris encounters some new strain of zombie, far smarter than those he’s used to.

Takeuchi revealed that the game will have more than one old friend for the fans, and will also feature a familiar female character from the Resident Evil games of old, who will be playable for a considerable portion of the game.

Apparently the camera is using the same mechanics as it did in RE5, which many thought worked rather well. Takeuchi revealed that there’ll be a new feature for the franchise that he sees as the next logical step, though stayed quiet on what that might be.

The importance of light was also discussed and emphasized as an important aspect of the game. The effect we all experience when walking from a brightly lit outdoor area to a dark and unlit room indoors will be emulated by the game’s graphics engine, which should add an interesting aspect when trying to fight your way through a room of zombies.

We still know nothing more detailed than “2008” for a release date though.

Keep checking back to the RE5 hub for more information as we get it.
