Red Dead Redemption 2 Mod Adds a Nemesis System, Gang Wars, and More

Mind-blowing.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 modding community has done incredible work over the years, but enRAGE might be its most ambitious project yet. It builds on the game’s already detailed NPCs with a Nemesis system inspired by Shadow of Mordor, gang warfare, rivalries, hierarchies, and much more.

What Does the enRAGE Mod Add to Red Dead Redemption 2?

The enRAGE mod, created by nicklovin99 on Nexus Mods, expands the existing NPC system by giving every NPC a name, temper, traits, backstory, and relationships. Rather than treating strangers as one-time encounters, the mod aims to make them feel like actual people who remember you, your interactions with them, and how you’ve treated them. Piss someone off enough times, and they’ll eventually turn into your nemesis and come looking for revenge.

With enRage, the same idea extends to the eight factions that inhabit the world. Each has its own leadership, hierarchy, resources, and relationships with other groups. Some can be allies, while others might have a blood feud that eventually erupts into an all-out war. These conflicts can unfold independently of your actions, with factions fighting over territory, losing men, and replacing fallen leaders. You can watch it all play out or get involved yourself, whether that means sabotaging supplies, taking out an officer, or weakening an entire outfit from within.

Arthur can also interrogate NPCs in much greater detail, asking about their outfit, its leaders, plans, supplies, and where it keeps its money. How much information you get depends on how you handle the interrogation, and some NPCs might even lie to send you into a trap. It’s another system that builds on something already present in the base game, but enRAGE takes it much further, adding an almost RPG-like layer to how you gather information and plan your next move.

Based on the description, there’s also plenty happening outside of these conflicts. NPCs have their own routines and relationships, and the mod records events in a world chronicle that you can check at any time. You can even pick up regional newspapers detailing gang wars, funerals, and other events, including some of your own exploits. Not everything has to end in bloodshed, either, as your actions can improve your reputation in individual towns, and you can even make peace with a nemesis through telegrams.

enRAGE is available now in early access on Nexus Mods. The mod author has also confirmed that it works independently of the main campaign’s story, letting you experience its systems without having to follow Arthur’s usual path. Keep in mind that it’s still a work in progress, so you may run into bugs or other issues while playing, and not all the systems promised will always work as smoothly. The creator has also disclosed that they used Claude Code to help develop the mod.

Honestly, this is one of the most impressive mods I’ve seen, at least based on what it promises. The sheer number of new NPC interactions and the expanded gang systems could make the already immersive world of Red Dead Redemption 2 even more dynamic. Whether Take-Two and Rockstar will allow the mod to stay up is another matter, and I hope it complies with their modding guidelines. If it delivers on its promises, playing through RDR2 again with enRAGE installed could feel like a completely new open-world experience.
