The image was released by Obsidian on the game’s Kickstarter page, which has just 4 days left with a current total of $2,754,870 at the time of writing.

The screenshot you see was created with an unusual technique that lends itself very well to creating beautiful isometric games. Obsidian explains the process as so: “build 3D levels, render them out as 2D images, and then have our artists paint in beautiful details, highlights, and color-tweaks before they went into the game.” It’s the same method used when creating Icewind Dale and answers all my questions about how one would easily work out what another angle looks like when creating isometric games.

The team has added a couple of extra stretch goals for the Kickstarter’s last few days. Of they make it to $3 million (very likely) they’ll add a “big ol’ stronghold” in which players can store their stuff, craft items, rest, shop and interact with companions. Obsidian has explained it’ll be a bit like The Sink in Fallout: New Vegas’ Old World Blues DLC.

There’s a $3.5 million bonus too, which’ll add a second large-scale city to the title. Designer Josh Sawyer has expressed his desire to have a second large city in the game but it’s all a matter of budget constraints.

Obsidian has thrown in a Digital Campaign Almanac for those who have or plan to contribute $50 or over. It’ll be available for $15 separately to anyone else.

There’s a load more lore recently added too if you’d like to know a bit more about how the world’s shaping up, just head on over to the Kickstarter page to have a look.

Just remember: four days to go.
