Nintendo is already hitting the ground running for 2013 with its 3DS by announcing a new Pokemon game, one that fans will enjoy while also attracting an alternate audience with an interesting new gimmick.

The game is called Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates To Infinity, and in it, you need to explore the mystery dungeons by using the 3DS’ built-in camera to scan circular objects in the real-world.  This enables you to create portals that are called Magnagates, opening up new areas to explore and enemies to take on with your Pokemon crew.

Another proposed feature with the game is being able to take pictures of your friends and turn them into Pokemon characters.  So you can finally see which one of your buddies would make a good Psyduck.  Or for that matter, Koffing.  KOFFIIIIIING!

The game is slated for a U.S. release on March 24th, and is expected to sell for $39.99.  We’ll have a preview soon that goes into more depth on the included features.  Meantime, you might want to comb that hair!
